Daughter: Mom, Can I go to a party tonight?
Mom: How can I be certain your not going to drink alcohol?
Daughter: Ugh mom, how can you even consider that when I’ve been doing homework all day!
This is an example of red herring because “doing homework all day” has extremely nothing to do with whether or not she’ll drink. She tried to change the focus of the conversation by bringing another topic up, which is considered red herring. This actually happens to me very often. I usually do this when I want
