School board administrators are responsible for ensuring that students have a healthy and safe learning environment. If administrators do not make sure that student’s basic needs are being met they are basically contributing to the unfair treatment of children who are enrolled in their particular school. School boards who are seeing a constant increase in the amount of cyber bullying have implemented programs that are in place to educate students on ways to prevent cyber bullying. These particular programs also educate students about the dangers and the consequences of cyber bullying. Other possible solutions to solving this problem would be to limit access to the technology that can be used in schools and to create a school environment that makes children feel comfortable expressing their problems. The main solution to this problem depends on administrators. Bullying in society is seen as a minor thing. Bullying is made into something humorous through movies, songs, television, and stereotyping. Therefore, teenagers can be misled about the real devastation bullying can have on their classmates. It is more than short-term hurt feelings; it can be psychological and physical scarring that could potentially last the victim a lifetime. According to the American Society of Positive Care for Children’s website, “about 28 percent of students aged 12-18 reported being bullied at school during the school year” (Bullying Statistics and Information). This means almost one-third of students are dealing with this widespread dilemma, and it is only getting worse with more outlets for bullying such as social networking and easier access to the internet than ever before. Bullying in all forms is a threat to teenagers and can have serious or even deadly consequences to its…

Bullying is an issue that has become more prevalent we must create laws to tackle this issue now. If you were to see bullying happen right in front of you who would you defend? I would defend the person being bullied and not the instigator. We should be concentrating our efforts on protecting the victim not the problem. In the era of computers and networking, we face many new issues that can have very real consequences. We have lost many young lives due to this new technology, and even though it may be great to keep up with friends and family, not everyone is using this new technology for good. Many kids are getting bullied online in places like Facebook and Myspace, and in most of the cases, the kids are not of the age listed by the company to be able to open an account. This rule is partly to take into account the maturity level of the person holding the account. The people having their self-esteem smothered should be the people we should be protecting with these new laws. We have had many new issues come from the internet including; online harassment, cyberbullying, hacking, identity theft…etc. The internet has created this virtual world that some people feel is separate from their real lives.
