I hope to become just as successful as he has in my life in someone else’s. Growing up in the “projects” to becoming the world’s best surgeon should give some people that live in similar situations the inspiration of becoming just as great as Dr. Carson is. What comes to mind when envisioning the aspects of a hero? An innovator? A fearless fighter? While those elements can be true, loyal, dauntless and determined are more suitable to describe Norman Bethune. This Canadian doctor was born in Gravenhurst Ontario. He was idolized by citizens all over the country for his dedication and endless commitment towards his patients. During the Spanish Civil War, nearly 2000 Canadians travelled to Spain to fight for the Republic, and as a result, almost half didn’t return to their families back home. Bethune did his absolute best to try and help the soldiers recover faster, so they could continue fighting for the country. Norman attempted multiple inexperienced, unusual, and unique medical techniques on his patients to efficiently restore their health. Norman Bethune is an inspiring role model towards Canadians because of his astounding assistance in multiple wars, his unique surgical techniques, and…

Each of us throughout our lives encounter or discover a person who exhibits that he/she is an excellent person. They are superior to those we consider normal people. They show that they above most and will bend over backwards if they must. They are the people who'll "take the bullet" or "give the shirt off their back" and will not bat an eye. Throughout my nineteen years of life, I've met many people. Though many are great, I cannot praise someone more that Earvin "Magic" Johnson. Magic, whom I never met, but wish I did, has shown that he is and will be an amazing person for years to come. In 1991, Magic found out that he had gotten the human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV),…

While there are many heroes in the US who are recognized for something they did for themselves, there are some unspoken heroes who should be recognized for their actions for others, for example, Sheldon Smith. Sheldon was an African American child who grew up without a father figure in his life, and who, at the age of 17, was sent to jail for robbery. While this may seem bad, it was the turning point in his life. "It was horrible. It scared me straight. It woke me up and saved me. I haven't been in trouble since." He said in CNN’s article about him, Breaking the cycle of absentee fathers And with this life turning point, Sheldon started paying attention to his community. Earlier this semester I had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Kahn, and asked him some questions. I was interested in asking him questions because I had admired him as a teacher, and a person throughout the semester. I had never met someone who appeared as intelligent as Dr. Kahn, but was also down to earth. In class he spoke in a way that was easy to understand, he also accepted, and answered our questions no matter how ignorant, or insignificant.…

“There are two types of people in this world. Those who say that something needs to be done, and those who say they will do something” (qtd. in “Meet Our Founder”). I chose Stephen Hawking to write about for my case study because I have always found him extremely interesting. As a fellow atheist he has come pretty outstanding scientific theories on how our universe came about, none of which are attributed to some fictitious being. I am also inspired with the amount that Hawking has done so far in his lifetime. All this has been done in spite of, or because of, having ALS. As a medical professional I am in awe of the things that he has accomplished.…

Just don't let anything discourage you from achieving your goals.” I saw courage and hope in her eyes. She was happy for seeing another day which most of us take it for granted. I remember I did not even know how many arteries the heart had or the importance of the heart beside pumping blood, but to see people believing in me when I doubted myself made me to be aware that this was the right path for me. I was blessed to get an opportunity to shadow Dr. Victor because it made me realize that I can save many poor children in Ethiopia who can't afford treatment. Later that day, I made a promise to myself that no one would be going to school in Ethiopia with a heart problem, and I said to myself no more “ I can not play or run any…
