INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY ASSIGNMENT

I.Title Nowadays technology has a great impact on almost every industry. Quickshop is a retail store selling household items and grocery. It is one point stop for customers who need to buy household items. Recently, the Managing Director of the store has decided to invest on technology to further improve the efficiency in operations. As an IT consultant, I has been hired to expain the importance of planning IS/IT, the pros and cons of technology to the Managing Director and analysis the impact technology will have on Quickshop. Furthermore, I also recommend systems that will be appropriate fir the Quickshop.

II.Abstract The phrase “technology revolution” has become a bit of a cliché. Everyone agrees that technology has impacted the lives of 21st century people dramatically. Ways of communicating and processing information thought to be impossible a few short year ago commoplace today. No company can long survive in todat’s business environment without some technology. No business person can expect career growth without a working knowledge of technology, especially as it interfaces with the all important task of building customer loyalty (Tim, P. R & Jones, C.G 2005). Therefore, it is very important for the retail shop to plan IS/IT in order to survive and compete with others. Having a good IS/IT helps the organisation a lot in running their business effectively.

The main purpose of investing on technology of the retail shop is to further improve the efficiency in operations. The Managing Director expects the system will help the business to manage their employees, distribute relationshion with their suppliers and also provide customers good services, products and experiences.
The operational activities of retailing were seen to be the purchasing of products, their storage and ultimately sale to the consumers. There are two components of the retail supply chain: - The external

    Home depot is the world’s largest retailer of home improvement and construction products and service. It was founded in 1978 in Atlanta, Georgia. At the beginning, when they first started they were more concentrated in expanding. They were forgetting about one of the most important parts in organizations, the IT and the IS. They had a weak IS, and the IT was an afterthought for years. Due to lack of IT and IS they had lagging in the IT and also had old equipment which decrease employee’s productivity. With this device they are able to scan items while waiting in line, it also has a credit card scanner that provides a faster checkout. Also, another improvement was that from being a brick-and-mortar company they became a click-and-mortar, one of reasons were because of an app that they developed (mobile commerce).…
