Unit aim
To introduce the learner to national and local policies in relation to infection control; to explain employer and employee responsibilities in this area; to understand how procedures and risk assessment can help minimise the risk of an outbreak of infection. Learners will also gain an understanding of how to use PPE correctly and the importance of good hygiene.

Learning outcomes

There are six learning outcomes to this unit.

The learner will:
Understand roles and responsibilities in the prevention and control of infection
Understand legislation and policies relating to prevention and control infection
Understand systems and procedures relating to the prevention and control of infections
Understand the importance of risk assessment in relation to the prevention and control of infections
Understand the importance of using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the prevention and control of infections
Understand the importance of good personal hygiene in the prevention and control of infections
