The market provides a way of life to the people in the community, they know what they will be doing on that day the market is open, they know what they want from the market and it provides the produce and a community feeling. However the corner shop has a lack of products on its shelves and the products it does have are outdated and understocked (Open University, 2014a). It does not cater to the needs of the community and as a result had to close down due to competition from the larger retail stores within the area and lack of community support from City Road residents.
