While fewer needed to grow more food other farm workers were put of work. Many could not afford the high costs of things or the new tools. This means that some of them lost their farm, and had to become agricultural labourers without owning land of there own. In some places the poor were actually driven from the countryside which led to them having to seek work in the growing towns and cities in factories.

Life in the factory was most challenging in the Industrial Revolution life. The factories were dirty and dangerous. They didn’t have any laws for the minimum pay or safety issues. The workers were paid low salaries that could barely cover their costs of living. Their hours were long and they were not permitted any breaks. The managers and owners were very strict and if the worker was caught wondering off or slowing down they were punished. One positive effect of the Industrial Revolution was urbanization. Urbanization was when cities were built because of all the jobs the factories were offering. Many people wanted these jobs and went from farms to these new cities. They needed homes for these new homeowners so they quickly built make shift
