Indifference In Night
“The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.” This quote by Elie Wiesel says a lot. Indifference is dangerous. We have a moral responsibility to help others most of the time. There are moments where it’s okay to be indifferent. This moral responsibility that we have is important to keep our indifference in check. We have a moral responsibility to help right the wrongs in the world but to an extent. There are situations where it is acceptable to be indifferent. For example, a part in the book Night, Elie’s dad was getting beat by an SS officer and Elie didn’t step in to help. In this part of the book Elie was being indifferent.
