The first thing I noticed, and though not really discussed in the class, was his attire. He was wearing long pants and boots, a long sleeved shirt, and a wide-brimmed hat. All of these are great wardrobe choices for an archaeologist. They protect you from the sun, as well as accidentally cutting yourself on sherds while excavating. One part of his appearance that does not fit the archeologist stereotype is his bullwhip. We have never discussed needing a bullwhip in class, so it is probably fitting a specific need: to create action. The Indiana Jones franchise is considered an action film series, so while he has a really cool day job, he needs something to make him the hero of the story. He has certainly had some sort of martial arts training, and something in regards to herpetology and arachnology. His herpetology and arachnology knowledge becomes clear when he is advising Mutt on the types of dangerous scorpions when they find the crystal skull the first time in Peru. Considering is knowledge on ancient land present languages, I would also propose he has had some sort of linguistic training.
