Indian Hill Essay
One could say I felt all different sorts of precarious. I had attempted a brief research on Indian Hill, but I was left stumped on how the trail was named and whether or not Indians used to reside there in the past. In addition, hiking is rather foreign to me, as it is not one of my usual happenings. Nonetheless, there I was at the gateway of Indian Hill, accompanied by my mother and amigo Amy Frankovich. It was a day where most likely your toes and the tips of your ears would be bit by the brisk cold. However, my feet were snug in my Cabin Socks and hiking boots. As we were beginning, we decided to take the blue trail, which was longer and more advanced than the undemanding yellow trail. No amount of time had passed before I was able to see the works of nature, for there were 'steps' up the hill carved into the ground by eroded tree roots. Towering trees with autumn brown leaves hailed the path; it was nearly impossible to let the vast green and red apples lingering in the trees and on the ground go unnoticed. Usually only diminutive crab apples are seen, and …show more content…
There was a torn leaf on one of the plants and it was fascinating to see a sticky, milky-white liquid ooze from its veins. As we continued to walk across the field, we came across another hiker who was walking her bugs, Simon and Tucker. No, the lady was not crazy, she was simply walking her Boston Terrier/Pug mix-breed dogs. We stopped and talked with her and she told us how she hiked with her dogs for an hour a day, and knew the trail very well. After saying goodbye to the kind lady, we back-tracked around the trail to see the scenic view. However, when we reached the viewing spot, I have to admit that I was disappointed. The 'scenic view' was just a bunch of trees and a Wegman's clock tower, which wasn't what I had imagined. Regardless, it was still a respectable

Chino Hills saw its first use back in 1771 as land used for grazing cattle that belonged to the San Gabriel Mission until being sold to Richard Gird in 1848 after Mexico ceded it to the United States. The city began to see a population growth in the early 1920’s when both a mineral springs and a country club were both built in the city. The mineral springs were built in an area of the city known as sleep hollow otherwise known as carbon canyon. The springs became a getaway from the big city and soon saw small dwellings being built around it. In the 1960’s the springs became a constant hang out for hippies and many permanent houses were built during that time to accommodate those that would hang out there. Unfortunately today they springs are no longer open but many of the houses still remain. The Los Serranos country club was opened in 1925 which allowed members to buy small lots of land around the club on which many members would build cabanas or casitas for weekend getaways which led to future more permanent housing.…

“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.” People are born into situations that are not always ideal for growing up, and that is often related to said person following in the steps of a poorly guided life. These situations are not excuses for following that path because though the situation might be very bad the individual still can make their own choices and decisions, and can change the way they live life. It is harder to make change, and be different than those around you, but it is entirely possible. Even without direct guidance or proper role models people still know right from wrong and can observe the people around them seeing how to act and how not to act. Following the path of change and being an individual is not easy but on that path whether you have no parental guidance, or role models, or even if you have the perfect life, it is still your choice to act right or wrongly. If that path is taken correctly and the experiences are looked at with a positive mindset, things are essential to a successful life. The shift in parental roles in Plainsong impacted the children positively due to the positive developments in their characters by portraying commitment, work ethic, intestinal fortitude, and the ability to determine right…

For example, consider the survey rankings among Mason City residents. The thought is that such high regard for water sports will translate into usage. But, survey responses can hardly be used as indicators of actual behavior. Many surveys conducted after the winter holidays reveal people who list exercise and weight loss as a top priority. Yet every profession does not equal a new gym membership. Even the wording of the survey results remain ambiguous and vague. While water sports may be among the residents' favorite activities, this allows for many other favorites. What remains unknown is the priorities of the general public. Do they favor these water sports above a softball field or soccer field? Are they willing to sacrifice the municipal golf course for better riverside facilities? Indeed the survey hardly provides enough information to discern future use of improved facilities.…

As my comrades and I trekked to the airstrip in the middle of some fields, a certain calmness overcame me. The sun’s becoming light and heat blankets me and Mother Nature’s work. Clearly she had spent quite a bit of time here. Blood red tulips and roses embedded themselves to the ground, covered with the greenest of green blades. Massive oak trees standing tall and mighty waved their many leaf covered arms at me as the lightest breeze brushed my face as if to say ‘howdy’. A Rainbow decided to just materialise to top it all off.…

In the last half of the nineteenth century, the lives of the Plains Indians were more dramatically affected then ever before. Both the technological breakthroughs and government policies had a significant impact on the Plains Indians. Technology played a major part not only with the advancements with railroads but with the now exchangeable parts in guns, which showed useful in the battle of Little Big Horn and Wounded Knee. The government gave the railroad millions of acres of land grants, such as the Morrill Land Grants. This action by the government often forced the Plains Indians to move or they were forced onto reservations by the government. The Dawes Act of 1887 forced certain tribes onto reservations.…

It’s a mild September afternoon and here I am with my hair pulled up, wearing a white tank top, black shorts and my favorite hiking shoes, enjoying nature at its best. I’m on a trail that I’ve never hiked before, however I have yet to be disappointed by the views. As I look towards the sun, the few clouds I see floating in the sky are being nudged along by a lazy breeze that is just strong enough to cause my bangs to lightly dance across my forehead. To my left I see a flock birds flying through the air in a v-formation, wings waiving in unison, intuitively flying south for the winter.…

The fields were quiet dense and we walked inside the canopy of large trees. After examining the nature around the place we headed towards the falls by the same way from which we entered. In few minutes we could cross the stream and reached the small road which headed us to the foothills of the falls. We had to cross the slippery rocks and thorny bushes to reach the top. We could also see the natural pores on the ground from where the water was oozing out very quickly and the natural water was really very pure and cold. We crossed the small valleys full of bushes and slippery rocks. Algae had grown on all the sharp edges and corners of the rocks, making it much more slippery. At last we reached the top of the falls to land on a barren field. There were houses all around that place. We took few pictures and left that place to board our bus.…

Two hours up the narrow, winding, gravel path spiraling the mountain, we veer to the right at Big Oak Campsite. The popping of the tire treads on the gravel sends warm waves through my body; I know we have arrived. Immediately I venture to the freshwater stream crafted from the melting ice off the higher altitude mountains. Due to how inviting it looks, I hop across the slippery stones to the infamous “Old Faithful” rock, which is just a good trout fishing spot. Standing here I scan my surroundings, which blow my mind. The lush forest filled with oak, pine, maple, and evergreen trees is so dominant over me; and I know it, but I am ok with it. The stream is relatively narrow, only spanning about 20 ft in width. Rocks of all sizes poke out the surface of the water and electric green moss grows thick on each one. They serve as my stepping stones back to the bank.…
