Inclusive Practice Questions Nvq Lvl 2
Unit 203 – Equality, Inclusion and Diversity 1. What does equality mean?
Equality is ensuring that all individuals or groups of people are treated fairly and no less favourably than others, but it does not mean that everyone is to be treated exactly the same. Equality is all about treating people in a way that is appropriate for their needs; for example if a woman in a wheelchair wanted to get on a plane it would be no use saying “I am treating you equally to the other passengers, here are the stairs.” What is needed in that situation is a way for her to board the plane without embarrassing her or treating her in a worse way than the other passengers, this is equality.

2. Give an example of equality in your practice?

3. What does inclusive practice mean?
Inclusive practice is about ensuring that there are strategies and approaches put in place to make sure that no members off society are excluded or isolated from taking part in society because of any characteristics or beliefs they may have. Inclusive practice means involving individuals in planning the services they use, making information easily available and in forms everyone can understand and about challenging situations where some are excluded because of their differences.

4. Give an example of how you work in an inclusive way?

5. What does diversity mean?
Diversity means difference. Diversity recognises that although everyone in society has things in common they are also different and unique in many ways, different in how they look or dress, how they behave, how they worship, their gender or ethnic group etc. and diversity recognises that contributing these differences to society in turn makes society better as a whole. By recognising and understanding society’s differences and embracing them we can create a productive environment where everyone feels valued.

6. Give an example of how you include diversity in your own practice?

7. Where would you access information, advice

Diversity: Diversity literally means difference. Diversity recognises that though people have things in common with each other, they are also different and unique in many ways. Diversity is about recognising and valuing those differences. Diversity therefore consists of visible and non-visible factors, which include personal characteristics such as background, culture, personality and work-style in addition to the characteristics that are protected under discrimination legislation in terms of race, disability, gender, religion and belief, sexual orientation and age. By recognising and understanding our individual differences and embracing them, and moving beyond simple tolerance, we can create a productive environment in which everybody feels valued.…
