I believe that juvenile should be incarcerated but not with adults. Juveniles should be put in a detention center with only children. inside this detention center they should still should be learning and trying to change themselves . I believe that if a juvenile committed a crime they should be punish for it but not charge as an adult. You have to keep in mind that they are still children. Some people believe that juveniles should be release rather than incarcerated while others believe the opposite . However both side have some advantages and disadvantage.
The advantages of incarcerated juveniles is help them understand what they done. It will give the juveniles time think about their actions and how

As Stacia Tauscher once said “we worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.” For my opinion is true, young offender population has increased of the years. Many people around the nation have different views on the subject of juvenile justice. Some believe that despite the children's age, they should still be tried as an adult if a serious crime is committed. On the other hand, some believe children should not be tried as adult even if they commit a rather serious crime. I firmly that these children should not be sentenced to life in prison despite the serious crime that they have committed and should have another shot at life when their brain is fully developed.…

“The advocates also said juveniles in adult facilities are more likely to commit suicide or be physically and sexually abused.” (Trying juveniles as Adults in NJ). If the juveniles commit suicide then they’d end up losing their lives. There's no way to get it back. That's why the guards take away their shoelaces and belts, so they would have nothing to use as a weapon against themselves or anyone else. If the juveniles were sexually abused, they’d probably not want to interact with other humans for a while. If a girl or a boy were to be sexually abused they would definitely be scarred. Children in adult prisons are 5 times as likely to be sexually assaulted, twice as likely to be beaten by staff, 50 percent more likely to be attacked with a weapon and 8 times as likely to commit suicide as children in juvenile facilities. The juveniles would hold that fear of being abused again in the future and not want to even be near their own family. If the juveniles would have to be charged as adults then they should be put in a cell individually, away from others. Especially if the juvenile is the one that would be the one to sexually abuse…

Kids who commit serious crimes should not go scot-free. If society doesn't recognize them as adults until the age of 18, why do kids suddenly become responsible as an adult when they commit a crime? Children have as much business in a prison as they do a bar. Yet, twenty-three states have no minimum age. Two, Kansas and Vermont, can try 10 year old kids as adults.…

The United States has 50 states, “land of the free and home of the brave”, “makes up 5 percent of the world population and also 25% of the world’s prisoners” –President Obama. Our prison system is full of guilty, convicted people serving unnecessary sentences for minor crimes or accused of a crime. Because our system takes in more people for minors as marijuana, and bad checks, our prisons have become shelters for much of our population. We are look at from other nations as a mystery as to why is there so many in prisons, and why do we even have so many prison facilities. Being one of the best free nations, with a democracy system, what makes America different from other nations is that we have to put almost…

More and more juveniles are being incarcerated in adult prisons because of legislation dropping the age juveniles are allowed to be tried as an adult and expanding the list that are considered adult crimes. States vary as to how old and where a juvenile is incarcerated. They may have to wait until a certain age to be transferred to an adult facility or they have to go in ight after sentencing. Sometimes they are in the general population of adults and others they try to keep them in different areas, but it all depends on the state and what their legislature says. Adult prisons do not meet the needs of a developing juvenile therefore putting them at risk for abuse and attempting suicide. Studies have shown that the younger juveniles are…

Sentencing is an “imposition of a penalty on a person convicted of a crime” (Schmalleger, 2014). Generally, sentencing is the last thing that occurs when an offender charged with a crime and the trial has ended. During a trial, each side will argue their case in front of a jury (if it is a jury trial); at which time said jury would deliberate and return with a verdict. Once the verdict comes back to the court, a date is set for sentencing. According to our textbook, “most sentencing decisions are made by the judge” (Schmalleger, 2014), there have been exceptions to this rule when there is the possibility of a death sentence at which time the jury may be involved.…

I don’t think there is one juvenile living that is ready to be in a prison environment, it’s not anything that you can train for and I am also concerned about if the juvenile will receive the proper medical and mental health services. But for a juvenile to be on death row is very disturbing. Juveniles are young and juveniles haven’t gotten a chance to explore and actually live their life so this is a sad scenario. I don’t think there is any crime even a homicide or armed robbery is worth putting a juvenile on death row. The judge should have some sympathy and issue out a split sentence before even considering death row for a juvenile. The famous quote “if you can’t do the time don’t do the crime” is very serious but I think the system should be lenient and have some sympathy for…

The topic of young offenders caught my eye as I was scanning for an idea to write my paper. Criminals of any fashion are of interest to me, and youth in the justice system is a subject that I have dealt with throughout my high school career. A friend of mine has been in and out of correctional facilities, and it was not till later that they discovered he had a mental disorder that he was not being treated for. This is upsetting because if he had been scanned for an issue such as this, he could have been helped rather than incarcerated. Aiding this friend the first time that he was arrested might have helped him avoid reliving these situations repeatedly. This goes not just for him, but many juvenile offenders who suffer from a mental illness who go unnoticed and untreated through the system. I understand that it is a difficult task to categorize people into certain mental disorder categories and such, do to the overlap in many disorders and the issue of there being no universally correct definition of mental disorder. There are trusted measures however and some sort of scanning system would be better than none.…
