The Alexandria chamber of commerce was formed in 1906 to assure business standards, to work toward better business conditions and to serve as an active voice in framing public policies affecting the business community. Its mission is to ensure a climate that grows and strengthens business in Alexandria. It is a founding member of the newly organized United States chamber of commerce. In addition, the Alexandria chamber of commerce focuses on promoting American businesses both in the United States and overseas. The department gathers economic and demographic data to measure the wellbeing of the economy, promotes US exports, enforces international trade agreements, and regulates the export of sensitive goods and technologies, patents and trademarks (alexchamber.com). A view of audience and stakeholders shows that a stakeholder is a person or a group who has interest in a given situation, and who is an active player (Stuart, B.et-al, 2007). In essence, stakeholders are individuals or entities that have an interest in an organization. The role of stakeholders with the Alexandria chamber of commerce is trade facilitation. Trade facilitation is done at the national, regional, and international level, and from the public, as well as the private sector.
The Alexandria city chamber of commerce uses demographics, psychographics, sociographics, usergraphics and webographics as an approach to define its intended audience and stakeholders. This approach is based on the assumption that different groups of audience have different characteristics that influence the extent to which they pay attention to understand and act on different messages (Cutting Edge PR).
