Improving Students Speaking Ability By Using Instructional Media Article Analysis
Fitrawati writes an article which is titled “Improving Students’ Speaking Ability by Using Instructional Media for Advanced Learners.” The purpose of her article is to help teachers, especially speaking teachers, by giving some solutions in order to teach and increase advanced students’ speaking skill. The jurnal of hers is really informative, but it also has some problems in the contents or ideas in Part B which includes Teaching Speaking and Instructional Media. Hence, besed on that case, this writing will analyze and give some comments to Fitrawati’s article.
In her article, Fitrawati claims that instructional media can increase students’ skill in spekaing. She argues that teaching speaking will be more interesting if teachers use some medias.

She quotes some principles in using instuctional media from Gutschow. The first one is teaching the lesson will be easier to deliver, easily practicing the illustration of the material, avoiding students to use theri L1 in the class, and then increasing students motivation. Also, she adds several medias in teaching the lesson which teachers can use. She quotes it from Elly and Kalsek which she groups into three big parts, they are visual media, audio media, and audio visual media.
She further discusses about how to use video, as one of the instructional media in speaking class. she provides the activities teachers can apply in the class if they choose video as their visual aids. She also mentions the good way to choose the video which can be used. Then, she writes the guideline of preparation for students while they are watching the video, and also the task or evaluation paper in order to know how far students can understand the material or the lesson related to the

It makes the contain and the sub-heading seems not suitable. It is better for the author to add some contain about how to teach speaking and explain what teaching speaking actually is. That will support the part strongly and make it more suitable. For example, teacher should teach speaking like in their daily conversation. It can help teacher to change their teaching method to be more native-like study. Nunan in Kayi (2006) states that teacher has to teach speaking English by making the class situation like in students’ real-life interaction and giving them a task that using their speaking

    The video shows the actual performance of students at the five stages of oral English Language Acquisition. The stage one enactment of the Silent Period (can last 0 to 6 months (Syrja (2011 p. 35)) shows two male students. One student with proficiency answering the teacher’s questions about the other student and the other student is silent. The stage two Early Production Stage (can last six months to 1 year Syrja (2011p. 35))) enactment shows a girl student talking quietly with one or two word phases answering questions. The stage three enactment Speech Emergence (can last 1 to 3 years Syrja (2011 p.35)) shows a girl thinking out her questions and answers. She sentences has errors but she is doing a good performance.     Each individual in a class may fall in several group therefore the teacher should incorporate all VARK modalities when teaching their student. This will help all the students to learn instead of just a particular group of students. A teacher must cater to the attention of the Visual learner by doing role models, giving demonstration, showing visual aids or presentation of diagrams and charts to help the visual learner achieve their goal of learning. The teacher should be aware the students learning styles to create a meaningful session. If all the students in a class are aural learners the session would mostly involves lectures, instead of giving out pamphlets and giving chapters from text book to read. All this may go well for the read/write group of learners but does not help aural learners. This will help the teacher because her students will learn better and time would be used appropriately.
