In the modern world of business, specifically IT and Software Development, more and more companies are turning to team based projects and other forms of collaborative work to increase their competitive edge and productivity. There are multiple reasons as to why this takes place and in this short essay, we will detail the various reasons as to why collaboration and teamwork are becoming integral methods in business. We will introduce and describe some common methods and technologies which are enabling the growth of teamwork and collaboration in the business environment.
There are a multitude of reasons as to why collaboration is important in the fields of business. To begin with their is the simple idea that a group of people can manage a much greater of scale of work than one person. This makes it crucial fields such as software development where it is possible for a single person to carry out the task, but it is much more quick and efficient to have a group working on specific areas of the project at hand. This allows for much quicker timescales in which the project can be completed allowing a company to increase it's productivity as more projects can be completed in a shorter amount of time. This would enable the business to become much more competitive in it's particular market of interest.
Further reasoning for the introduction of team-based projects into business is the morale effect it has on the participate in the project. Working in a group increases the morale of those involved as the amount of pressure put on each individual is lessened and they are much more flexible in their work. It is also clear that being part of a group would increase a participant's willingness to work and also the enthusiasm with which they work as when a person is part of a team they would strive to improve the level of their work as not to let their team mates down.
