Importance of Communication Skills for a Health Practitioner

Introduction
Communication is an integral part of our day-to-day living. It is necessary to examine the process of communication to make our interactions with the outside world effective.Having the appropriate communication skills is extremely important fordoctors as they have to frequently communicate with different groups ofpeople. Whether it is to gather information from a patient and his family about an illness and provide medical advice, or to discuss problems in the day-to-day functioning of a ward with other members of the health care team, or to address the public about preventing the spread of an epidemic, doctors have to communicate with others. It is imperative that you acquires communication skills early and nurtures these skills so that when practising as a doctor you are able to function optimally under varying conditions. Objective * Student to recognize the importance of doctor-patient communications * Student toidentify factors which influence doctor-patient communications * Student to identify useful strategies to carry out an effective consultation * Student to recognize the difficulties faced in doctor-patient communications and how to face them effectively.

Instruction
A talk will be given by Dr. Kumar Clark senior of Public Health Science from University of Sains Malaysia.The speech will be aiming towards the final students of UniKL RCMP who will be graduating soon and dealing with real patient soon after they graduate from the college.It will be an one hour session,which will be held in the Blue Lecture Theatre with estimated around 125 final year students will turn up. At the end of the session, there will be a 15 minutes Q&A session with the speaker and another 10 minutes is used to ask the feedback from the participants regarding to the talk.
