Importance of Chain of Command
Importance of utilizing chain of command

The chain of the command defines the relationship of juniors and seniors within navy organization. An effective chain of command is essential for the navy to carry out its mission. Good leadership supports an effective chain of command.

The chain of command serves several purposes in the accomplishment of the Navy’s mission. It defines responsibilities and identifies accountability. Properly used, it provides direction and smooth communications and ensures efficiency.

The chain of command provides direction in the assignment of duties. All members of the chain of command know their specific duties. Seniors assign these duties, and juniors should carry them out to the best of their ability.

The chain of command provides for smooth, rapid, and effective communication. Each person in the chain of command needs to clearly understand his/her status within that chain. Seniors should pass information down the chain of command about matters that may affect juniors. Juniors should pass information up the chain of command about problems that exist. In this way, communication flows in both directions.

What about a problem in the work place? who do we tell about it ? our chain of command works in both directions, up and down. The upper level keeps us informed of the types of the operations . the people in the lower levels must keep the upper levels informed of all difficulties experience in the performance of assigned duties. Every level in the chain of command is an integral part of a team. Members at each level must do their part to make sure their command functions effectively.

All services of the United States military are arranged organizationally to follow this single chain of command concept. This concept provides a clear structure for orders to flow from the highest levels of the military to the most junior ranking soldier, sailor, airman, and marine. Just as important, this same concept allows information,

As it is well known in any of the military branches, the chain of command is of high importance. The chain of command is built of out a single soldier. Those single soldiers are made into a squad. Two to four of those squads put together a platoon. From there, three to five platoons makes for a company. In a closer look, a soldier of an E-4 status or below is patrolled by squad leader which is in fact an NCO. An NCO stands for a non-commission officer which their job is to govern the soldiers. The squad leaders then report platoon sergeants which then will go and report to the senior NCO which is also known as the first sergeant. The first sergeant will oversee the company and guide it. This is known as the chain of command that soldiers must follow. Information is shared from highest rank to lowest rank and also from lowest rank to highest rank when needed.…

In a company, chain of command means the order of authority level from a business owner or CEO to a front line employee. It is the structure where you report to your upper in an appropriate authority order. It is a very effective tool that helps keep the order in any size business. For example, if you are a bank teller and you have a scheduling issue, you should discuss it with your supervisor rather than with their upper up. Sometimes this chain can get broken and it can cause certain troubles at the work place. Maintaining healthy chain of command equilibrium can be a complicated responsibility that requires constant attention. There are no specific instructions on how to use this tool other than to just follow it. I believe that respect for such guidelines will help set the tone for healthy work flow.…

Leadership influence on subordinate behavior is very important. In module 7 we identified that connection power is one of the positional powers. I feel like connection power is the most important from this lesson overall. By having connections in the military, you can help not only yourself and your subordinate, but also your leadership and squadron as well. While this concept should not be the primary way to operate, it does have its benefits. Using connection power alongside reward power you can give your subordinate something to look forward too. If they accomplish a task that is highly important to the squadron, you can bring their name up to the command team. This type of example will highlight their name for leaders to remember…

One of the ways that rank structure is important is that it is like a link of chains. This chain forms a link between the highest officer to the lowest of the enlisted. This chain allows for the anywhere in the chain of command for an order to be issued and it will go down the chain to the level at which it needs to be accomplished. Also it allows for the those at the bottom know who they may bring grievances to. It also allows for the smooth operation of many assorted tasks to be accomplished efficiently and quickly. But this chain become weakened when someone does not follow the chain up the through the command for grievances or does not follow the orders of those who are placed above them. By not following orders or by trying to go around those who are placed above them, they cause others to see that the rank structure is unimportant and this causes the rank structure to breakdown and eventually lead to chaos and anarchy.…

In the world of business, communication has to exist for any company to meet the goals of employees and of its own. As in the military a chain has been developed so that all troops can understand that flow of communication and authority. This style is known as the chain of command which is defined as: “The order in which authority and power in an organization is wielded and delegated from top management to every employee at every level of the organization. Instructions flow downward along the chain of command and accountability flows upward.” (Web Finance, 2013) In 14 years of personal experience in the military this style would benefit the current organization I am employed by and have been for the last 2 years. In our current structure we have two Managers- direct and 2nd level, then a Director and at the highest level our Vice President. In this format sometimes our direct manger is left out of the loop and never giving a chance to perform his duties when the 2nd level Manager comes directly to us. According to Kelchner (2013), “An established chain of command creates efficiency when reporting problems or communicating with workers. For example, when a worker communicates a problem to his supervisor’s manager, the supervisor doesn 't have an opportunity to correct the problem.” Since our current format of management has a fault, corrections need to be made and all of us as an organization need to follow it so the chain stays strong by working effectively. This chain of command theory is just the start and when used with 5 subcomponents will in the end help reach personal and company goals.…
