Being on time is important in everything you do especially in the military. By not being on time you can cause problems for not just you but other people as well. For instance if you are to be replacing someone and you are not on time you can make that person late because they had to wait for you. By just one person being late can disrupt the events of an entire day. An example of this is a platoon is going out to a field exercise for training and a soldier is late by fifteen minutes that can cause that entire platoon to be behind in getting out to the field exercise disrupting the agenda set by the platoon leader and platoon sargent. If you are late to an appointment you are taking up valuable time that could be used by another person. Another reason it is always important to be on time is if you are going to a job interview and you are not on time you could loose the position because it is a first impression of how your work ethic could be. Even if you just make plans with some friends to see a movie, you should be on time because if you are late you and your friends will miss part of the movie. In the military you can receive sever punishment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice for not being on time. Some of the consequences can include loss of rank, loss of pay, and having to pull extra duty while under restriction. Repeatedly being late in the military could lead to a discharge from service. Similarly if you are constantly late for civilian employment you will face punishment that could include having your hours cut back, your earnings garnished, or possibly fired from that position. After creating a history of being late to a point that you are let go from your job, it can become difficult to find future employment due to the fact that employers will contact your previous line of employment to find out why you were released from your position within that company. Further more after making a history to your friends, family and your employers of not…

Early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable. This is a motto that every Marine should live by. We are constantly told that for anything and everything we have to show up to, we should be 15 minutes prior. This gives us a few extra minutes incase anything happens. Also this is so we are not rushed on our way there. If you show up just on time there is a chance they could have started without you, therefore you are late. Showing up on time is a responsibility that is expected to be upheld by all Marines, regardless of rank. Responsibility is a key factor in honor, one of our core values. It is important to see that it is necessary for those in the Army to be held to a higher standard. While being on time remains and always will be an extremely vital aspect of military bearing and discipline. I cannot say enough on how important being on time constantly is and always will be. For instance; a soldier is late or perhaps does not report at all to a place at the time ordered. That effectively compromises and diminishes the efficiency of which the task is to be completed. The main reason for this essay is because I did not follow standard operating procedure and was not at the correct place of duty for accountability of my person while on quarters as prescribed by my doctor. Regardless of my reasons for absence, there is no excuse as to why I was not in my barracks room as I had been ordered to be or at a minimum give a courtesy call to my chain of command if I needed to go anywhere for any reason. I want to be an excellent soldier and I want to excel in the military, but in order to be such a soldier I need to be more responsible for my actions. I feel that, being a new soldier in this unit, I have some wonderful examples from my superiors and soldiers who have been here longer and I should follow their example more closely. The inability to be where I am supposed to be when I am supposed to be there is a fault that has neither the place nor time for existence within our ranks in the army. However, in order for me to effectively and efficiently continue my rigorous journey up the long road of leadership and respect in the army, I need to be able to be relied on for anything that is required of me from the most simple and mundane to the most demanding tasks. In order to accomplish this, there are a few step I must put in place first. The first step I need to put into place is making sure I am always accounted for no matter where I might be which in turn means I am on time for place of duty at least ten minutes prior to the specified time as put out by my leadership. If I am unable to make it to the place of duty on time, I, at the very least owe it to my team leader and squad leader to call them or send them a text message explaining my absence and accepting the consequences of any of my actions regardless of my intentions. Even though my problem was not that I was late to any event or formation, I feel that this is just as important a subject as any to talk about because if a soldier is not at his or her place of duty at the…

Punctuality shows that you are responsible, trustworthy and can follow directions. Punctuality isn't just an order that the Army requires, but also a good personal trait that is a reflection of a person’s character, it shows that you have personal integrity and self-discipline. While some of us are occasionally late due to circumstances beyond our control, habitual tardiness shows a lack of respect for other people and their time. If someone is late continually that shows that they more then likely do not care about what their NCO tells them. Time is a precious gem that should not be wasted at any cost. If you don't use your time wisely, you can never get it back. It is a very special resource in that you cannot store it or save it for later. Promptness is not only a duty, but is also a part of good manners, it is favorable to fortune, reputation, influence, and usefulness. Lack of punctuality is a theft of someone else's time and a complete lack of respect for others. You should be punctual in everything you do. Punctuality goes hand in hand with military discipline. Recruits are taught to obey, immediately and without question, orders from their superiors, right from the day one of boot camp. Military discipline and effectiveness is built on the foundation of obedience to orders. This is why we are supposed work so well as a team. By following orders from the more…

There are many reasons that time management is important. For example, if your unit was getting ready for deployment, you would need to be at the right place at the right the time, to receive any information you or your fellow soldiers may need to know before you leave. If you weren’t there when you were told to be then you would fall court martial under article 87 in the UCMJ, which is missing movement. Should you miss movement, you could face the possibility of being court martialed for being late or not showing up at all. People have also gone to prison for missing movement. When this happens your entire military career is essentially over. This is only one example, as I go further into this essay I will explain more. The importance of time management even applies to the garrison part of your army career. Your whole army career is all about time management. As recruits in basic training we were taught that you need to be ten minutes prior to the formation. We were taught that anything less than ten or fifteen minutes prior to formation, you were late.…
