Immigration has been a major source of population growth and cultural change throughout much of American history. According to the Brookings Institute News Letter, “the economic, social and political aspects of immigration have caused controversy regarding ethnicity, economic benefits, jobs for non-immigrants and crime.” Presently, in the United States immigration is a hot topic, especially in light of Arizona’s newly passed law that makes it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. The Arizona law requires local police officers to question people about their immigration status, if there is any reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants. The Arizona law also allows lawsuits against government agencies that hinder enforcement of immigration laws; it makes it illegal to hire illegal immigrants for day labor or to knowingly transport them. The main issues concerning the United Sates concerning immigration debate are loss of jobs to immigrants, crimes committed by immigrants and the rejection of United States culture by immigrants. These issues persist regardless if the immigrant in the United States is here legally or illegally. “Any alien who is present in the United States in violation of an act or any other law of the United States is deportable.” This mandate is from the Nationality Act Section 237(a)(1)(B). According to www.fairus.org “The immigration authorities currently estimate that about two thirds of all illegal immigrants are entries without inspections and the remainders are people who are over stating.” Immigration rates have drastically been increasing as the years go on, it is estimated that in the year 2050, twenty percent of the total American population will be immigrants. Many immigrants come to the United States to get jobs this is good because they are usually willing to take the jobs that nobody else wants. Immigrants have also
