Imitation is Suicide
I agree with Emerson’s quote, “Imitation is Suicide”. For example, in the book To Kill a Mockingbird, Boo Radley was known as the monster that lived in the Radley’s Basement. A rumor spread saying he did something horrible to his father. But in the end, they are shocked to find out Boo Radley is actually very nice. Another example is, he saved Jem and Scout from being murdered. Saving Jem and Scout showed that he is not all bad of a person. Imitation is Suicide, be yourself for any chance you get. Mr. Groeger English 1 Boo Radley imitated a scary monster, but was really quite nice.

Integrity, or the lack of such, is a huge component in the creation of personal beliefs of a person. Those with integrity show compassion and empathy with many of the decisions they make, and they usually have a strong set of morals; they stand up for what they believe in even in the face of adversity. Atticus Finch, from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is one such person. Harper Lee helps readers follow the journey of Atticus as he attempts to end the ignorance with which the citizens of Maycomb grew with. In this small town where nothing happens and everything stays the same, a single event causes the citizens to stir and, in a way, “wake up”. As citizens are exposed to these new situations, Atticus forces them to reconsider their personal morals and decide whether they are ethical or not. As they people reflect on themselves, they start to change their perception of what is and is not right. When people are pushed to reflect on the very fundamentals of their way of life, they sometimes find that what they originally thought was fair is actually not so. Lee showcases this by focusing on the changing beliefs of some secondary characters, as well as focusing on Atticus’ moral integrity and…

The general statement made by Harper Lee in her novel To Kill a Mockingbird is that once one has personal motivation to gain and help others, the unfavorable results can be faced more confidently and can be easier to accept. More specifically, when Atticus was faced with a battle he could not win, it was easier to carry out the case once he thought about the lesson he was teaching others and how it would nurture his integrity; as stated when Atticus mentioned how he “...wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.”…

In “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, Jem Finch discovers that it’s essential to do what’s right even if it’s not a favored decision. Examples of this are shown throughout the book as Jem becomes exposed to more knowledge, and Atticus, his father, is a prime example of what’s just. It’s important to learn the lesson of doing what’s right because without it, you’ll lose self-esteem and respect. Not doing what’s right can lead to severe punishments both physically and mentally. Doing something wrong, and even just doing nothing can eat away at you, and doing the right thing will never be worse than that.…

This is because every man would love to weild infinite wisdom, and with him being that character with that attribute makes him admirable to everyone who wishes to improve upon who they are. He teaches his biggest lesson when he tells Scout, “You never really understand a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” (Lee, 57). This is something that everyone needs to learn and Atticus puts it in the best way to comprehend. Another lesson Atticus teaches is to tell the truth because if you lie you will feel guilty about it for the rest of your life, "Best way to clear the air is to have it all out in the open." (Lee, 366). These are just two of the dozens of lessons Atticus Finch teaches people about…

While reading the article Suicide on Campus and the Pressure of Perfection many parts seemed relatable to things that my fellow classmates and I have talked about before with some of our classes. One bad grade can make it feel like you are going to fail the class and need to drop it. One part of the reading that really jumped out to me was “create adolescents who are ultra-focused on success but don’t know how to fail” (Scelfo, J., Suicide on Campus and the Pressure of Perfection). That statement is very true, not only for adolescents but all ages. I see many people who hate to fail and will suffer greatly to not do so, one of my classmates last semester dropped a class and has to take it over the summer because she thought that she would fail…

Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee had the most Christ-like character. Radicals could call him the second coming of Christ, because his life decisions and personality so reflect that of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Through his relationship with his kids, the readers see his good heart and wisdom, but most of his strong character traits come out in the trail of Tom Robinson. It takes much character, bravery, and selflessness to defend someone else's character while putting one's own at risk. Both Jesus and Atticus did this, the two of them let people mock and scorn them, so that they could redeem someone else. Hence, the readers see Atticus's Christ-like character through his scruples, humility, and courage.…
