Alteration of a picture is wrong when it prompts negativity. The message here, however, is and after long critical debate remains more vital than the medium used. It is true as you have quoted (Potter, 2012) “The visual intensity of the image combined with the emotional involvement of the image triggers our attention, memory and other cognitive processes “ and the image has a lasting impact and is a great subject of debate. Images of Rosa Parks in a bus; Mahatma Gandhi on a hunger strike for India’s independence; Nelson Mandela in Robben Island because of apartheid, were realistic representations that created cognitive dissonance (Potter,2012.p130)and brought about social change. This image can do the same for the women who are caught up in domestic violence and create policies to protect them and others. This image can stop the perpetrators of this act as it can be a deterrent when they remember the consequences and public perception on abusers. The women can also be empowered to speak out sooner and discouraged from hiding behind makeup. Corporate entities and organizations can also be held accountable to ensure that people in those institutions do not commit domestic violence as part of their corporate social responsibility endeavors.Great job Christopher for bringing a unique angle to the uses of digitally altered pictures in the mass
