Generational change! There's no telling what you can do when you get inspired There’s no telling what you can do when you believe.. And there's no telling what will happen when you act.

Change Begins with Choice

This year will be recorded as another defining moment in the history of Ikono local government Area .After so many years of failed policies and failed politics, after so many year of unfulfilled promises to a generation, After so many years uncaring, uncommitted, unfocused and a dived- and- rule leadership. A leadership meant to dived and impoverish a generation. A leadership fashioned and programmed to keep us down and poor, a leadership that pitches brothers against brothers, a leadership that endangers a particular generation, so as to rule over us as long as their selfish ambition allows

Today is the moment that we must answer the call of History. Martin Luther king said something similar .we have come as a people that have been used, betrayed, lied to and dumped by generations that precedes us, Today we have all come home to cash a cheque, A promissory note handed to us by virtue of the fact that we where all born as indigenes of this great historical land of Ikono. When we were born we were all celebrated and welcomed to a land that promised us equal rights and opportunity to aspire and become what ever we want to be in life.

This year will surely be recorded by history as the year in which the youths of Ikono origin from all walks of live, at home and in Diaspora, came together to ask this bold questions. WHO ARE WE, AS A PEOPLE? WHERE DID WE REALLY COME FROM? WHY ARE WE STILL HERE? WHERE ARE WE GOING FROM HERE? WHAT WILL OUR FUTURE AND THAT OF OUR OWN CHILDERN LOOK LIKE?

Throughout every transformation of Ikono local Government Area-from agriculture to industry, traditional to political, local to National, peace to war and back again, there has been only one constant: the advancement of individual opportunity, opened only to the

The prosperous image above conveys several ideas centered on how the world addresses change, and how it is necessary for the growth of maturity and wisdom of an individual. The underlying message of the world being printed on the footprint, suggests that the World Walks for Change. Walking is a natural way of moving forward, and is essential in one’s life which alludes to the assumption that Change is almost inevitable. The only way to move forward in life is to accept changes, and to not be afraid of what accordingly occurs.…

Human beings, no matter what race or ethnicity or place or time, will not tolerate injustice forever. Webster’s defines injustice as a “violation of the right or of the rights of another” (Merriam-Webster, 1990). The history of the United States is filled with such violations. From the early challenges to religious freedom in Massachusetts to the broken treaties and systematic removal of Native Americans from their land to the abominable practice of slavery in the United States, our nation’s reality rarely measures up to the principles and ideals penned by the founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and The Bill of Rights.…

Today I witnessed many things, things that still do not feel to be reality but a nightmare instead. How can a group of people hate another group just because the color of their skin? How can anyone hate at all? This is all still too confusing to me as to why we even have to fight for our civil rights. But unfortunately for me and many other folks this is not a nightmare but a harsh reality, reality where life smacks you in the face and puts you down and makes you not feel wanted both literally and figuratively. But we will rise because we are the change that needs to be made in order to be able to create a footprint on this country and to show that we are here to gain our freedom like they once did.…

In the past 3 years our nation has experienced many events off time repetition. Our future generations has look at government as the enemy. Citizens of all race has been killed due to policemen prosecuting people more aggressively and not by the legal procedure. People are livid at that fact that multiple innocent people of the same race has been killed by policeman. Some has felt as though our constitutional rights has been forgotten and not protected in the trials of the oblivious events that have occurred. In the 1950s- 1960s African-Americans was raged at that fact that their ancestors had died and fought for them to have equality and to be free to only be standing 60 years later still fighting for freedom for what written in the Declaration Of Independence that “all men are created equal that they are endowed by their creator with certain…

    My Long Term Goals

That is me giving myself the ability to change the outlook of things. What do I mean by that? Well, coming from a low income family, not even having the money to attend college but having the mindset of believing I can do whatever I put my mind too shows the courage I have and how I am willing to change things. Coming from where I am from you have goals but sometimes they don't get accomplished and that's okay you continue to dream and fight. Being a strong believer keeps you together and shows others how well-equipped you are. I want to make a difference not only for myself but for others as well. One of my favorite quotes by Pres. Barack Obama is “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” And I truly believe I am that…

To think how the world we know today came to be is a sad and demoralizing but hopeful at the same time. It is sad to see how we arrived to our current state. Imperialism and colonialism were both heavy instruments used especially during the discovery of land in the western hemisphere of the world. Rich powerful nations in Europe like Great Britain, France, and Spain to name a few, sought to control this land without regard for the indigenous people and their lifestyles. But because of this, today we can reflect and see the wrongdoings of our ancestors and look towards the future and make sure we don’t do the same thing. Our generation is at a point like no other in history where we demand our natural rights, where we will not settle with the norm.…

    Life of an African American

    • 2306 Words

I am currently a sixty year old African American living in Southern Alabama. Throughout my life, I have experienced more hardships and seen more suffering than any man should ever live through. Growing up in the South during the 1830’s, I would have never imagined the opportunities that I have now, compared to my mother and father’s time. My mother and father came from West Africa as slaves and worked endlessly on a tobacco plantation in Virginia. I remember when I was a boy my father told me that when he was a child, slavery was becoming unpopular and soon enough, it would be gone. However, when the cotton gin was invented in 1793, all hope was gone as the demand in labor for cotton skyrocketed. It took till 1865, but I still remember that day when I heard the news that the Civil War was over. Now for the first time, blacks were seen as real live people. Since then, we have been fighting for our rights throughout the Civil Rights Movement. It is currently 1896 and we are still fighting for our liberation. I am told by many activists including W.E.B DuBois and Booker T. Washington that the day will come when we are accepted by society, but until then we must be patient and not damage our integrity.…

Will Rogers once said, “If you want to be successful, it’s just this simple. Know what you are doing. Love what you are doing. And believe in what you are doing.” When determining the laws of life that appealed to me, this quote emerged in my mind. The current generation has the potential for great things, but in order to achieve that high of capacity, they need perseverance, direction, and self-reliance.…

The shock for those that may rely on Major General Buhari’s victory is now even more real and worse whereby the Change so desired to exit President Goodluck Jonathan has been well accomplished. Thereby, suggesting that a complex set of political variables will now form part of the equation that may play major roles in determining who will be the next Governor of Kogi State. As such, in the soon to be held Kogi 2015 governorship election, victory speculations are tending to be a wild guess and this has certainly given rise to the reality that voters are now caught in a frost of uncertainties on whom to back. What this means is that in the next few weeks before the party primaries, any serious aspirant must see himself as a footballer struggling for a shirt in a vital competition at least to justify the decision of the coach and the teeming fans, otherwise, there may be a backlash..…
