Doodle, a younger disabled brother in James Hurst’s “The Scarlet Ibis”, is uniquely symbolic to the beautiful red bird seen dying in his yard. The scarlet ibis, like Doodle, both are exotic in many wonderful ways. For one instance, the ibis is beautiful, while Doodle has a creative imagination. The ibis is a rare phenomenal bird, likewise, Doodle is an extraordinary boy. He is sensitive, like when he sees Old Woman Swamp. “His eyes were round with wonder as he gazed about him, and his little hands began to stroke the rubber grass. Then he began to cry. “It’s so pretty, so pretty, pretty, pretty.” (318). Despite the Ibis and Doodle’s magnificent traits, both ibis and Doodle suffer from a horrible storm. What black and white iguanas eat are a mixture of marine and land iguanas. The land iguana mainly feeds on cactus leaves and flowers because they cannot climb trees. Therefore, they have difficulty finding food, and they are greatly influenced by the number of surviving the cactuses. However, the marine iguana mainly eats not only cactus leaves and flowers but also algae. The warm waters around the Galápagos Islands provide a good environment for algae. The usual warming of the ocean is known as the El Niño phenomenon. In the ocean waters, the temperature, however, has risen to nearly 30 degrees, resulting in a big decrease in algae and plankton. As the water quality around the Galápagos Islands is deteriorating, the marine iguanas began to look for food on land rather than in the sea. Therefore or consequently, black and white iguanas, a hybrid of between the land iguanas and marine iguanas, were born. Needless to say, they can eat algae, and it is incredible that they are able to eat tall cactus because they inherited the sharp claws so that they could climb…
