As Abraham Lincoln said, “If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend six sharpening my ax.” He would rather spend sharpening his ax for six hours because he knows that when he chops down the tree it will be successful. If you don’t prepare then your task wouldn’t be worth it. This quote relates to history, literature, even what you do on daily basis. Martin Luther King stood up for what he believed even though it took time to see things change. The Pearl by John Steinbeck, Kino realizes that money isn’t power throughout what happens in his life. Also, a course that I take named AVID it prepares students for college in many ways. To begin with, history explains itself; there was segregation between African-Americans and whites. While that was happening one person that impacted this was Martin Luther King Jr. because he stood up for his beliefs. This was a process with facing violence, death, and discrimination. As his beliefs spread, some people from both races began to follow from him. As you can see society now, we have become equal to one another. This prepares to achieve your goals because if there was still separation we wouldn’t be able to have any communications with others and know about their opinions.
Moreover, The Pearl by John Steinbeck relates to this quote on how it took Kino time to realize that family is everything and money doesn’t buy you happiness. Kino was a pearl diver, a miracle happened to his family and him, which was that they found a pearl. The pearl was extraordinary, nothing seen before and worth a fortune. He got obsessed with it and made mistakes that had people finding him. The results of him keeping the pearl were his baby death and from then he realized it and gave it up, but had nothing left.
