Imagine living in a place in which there isn't security and at any moment you could be shot the in the head and lay there cold blooded having blood run down your spine giving everyone the chills. In the book “If I Grow Up” there are many spine chilling events which cause a lot of suspense. There are many scenes like the one mentioned where any character in the book could be killed at any moment due to gang violence. There are many key points which will be developed like a synopsis, an evaluation of the book, and an analysis of the main character. In the novel “If I grow up” there is a clear idea in which everything bases upon which are decisions, a theme, a reflection of the novel, and a summary of the whole book.

“If I Grow Up” takes place in the Frederick Douglass Project during the present. The main conflict in the story is if the narrator Deshawn will live to be older, grow up, or be killed due to gang violence. The book begins with a kid named Darnell falling from the balcony of his apartment and the main character Deshawn went outside to see what had happened while all the neighbors gathered around to see the dead body. The climax of the book is when Deshawn decides to join the gang as a Disciple due to the poverty in his family. Overall, the theme of the book is poverty and is shown

My essay was mainly about the decisions DeShawn made and how it impacted his life as a whole. An evaluation of the book was given to clearly understand what the book was trying to portray to me and my overall opinion of the book. Ultimately an outline of “If I Grow Up” and a quick summary of the whole book and its main characters and the major conflict of the whole book. We should learn many things from this book including life lessons and themes which can help you learn and decide let you decide if you'll grow
