1.
In my opinion, the first thing that Kelly and other ALTs in her office should do is try to connect to AJET to ask them that whether other ALTs in Japan ever met the same problem like this before. In this case, there are two case :
The first case is that this problem was recorded by other ATLs before and many ALTs got into the same problem in Japan because of Japanese’s office culture. In this situation, Kelly and other ALTs in her office should ask AJET the best solution for this problems because they were experienced it before.
In the second case, if the answered is there was not ALTs ever met the same problems like Kelly and her workmate are facing which means that Mr Higashi treated them by his own way that going backwards with not only the deal but also the Japanese’s culture. I think that, the best solution for this case is Kelly call directly to CLAIR to complain about what she and her foreigner workmates are now sustaining and require an intervention. Furthermore, they can ask the CLAIR to change their workplace
2.
The conflict occurs because of some reasons:
The first reason is Mr Higashi acted not as a supervisor’s responsibilities. He thought that it was inconvenient when he must waste a lot of time to help ALTs to do simple every task life - which is a basis responsibility of a supervisor. Instead of giving ALTs information, he ignore them or giving them the wrong information.
The second one is the different in the office Culture between Japanese and eastern countries as Mr Higashi said : in Japan, typical Japanese employees normally did not make use of their vacation time due to their great loyalty to the company. If an employee became sick, he often used his paid vacation first out of respect for his employers.
The third reason is

Heather, the first employee she interviewed who is an administrative assistant, did not like the supervisor because of his dislike of foreigners. This might be the case because Heather wasn’t given a job promotion so she blames it on his dislike of foreigners. This can be to blame because of her confirmation bias therefore Heather is screening out the fact that the decision was made that Heather was Chinese, not that it is the best choice for the company. Due to this, Heather has taken a lot of days off and the supervisor views this as not caring about the company. Heather also told Aline that a retreat wouldn’t make the company closer and wouldn’t be better for the companies anti sociality. Americans, maybe not all but I would say most people dread going to work, making jokes and comments about Mondays. In the East, people like going to work. They look for the joy in what they do every day; employees make their days even more enjoyable singing their company songs and showing their pride by wearing their company pins for all to see. The employees respect their superiors, bowing to demonstrate their respect. The work ethics is held highly in the East and I would have to contribute this to the learning of…

Japanese management integrates work with their personal lives. Japanese management sees themselves as company representatives at all times. Thus, during introductions, a manager is introduced by the Japanese company first, followed by the manager’s surname. For example, a Japanese manager working at Honda is introduced as “Honda no Kato-san desu,” or Honda’s Mr. Kato. Contrast that with an American introduction, “this is Mr. Green of Boeing.” This conceptual difference is culturally engrained and establishes the tone for contrasting management styles. The Japanese work ethic has its roots in Confucianism, with an emphasis on respect for work, discipline, and the ability to follow orders. Loyalty to the organization or group is imbedded in Japanese promotion policies. Corporate members expect promotion based on seniority, rather than individual merit, as in the United States. On the other hand, American managers value personal accomplishment for recognition and individual identity. American managers are also high in individualism, goal attainment, and future orientation. Core Management Practices The Japanese consider three core management practices as inherent in their system. These include lifetime employment, seniority wages and promotion, and enterprise unionism. Workers are trained at company expense because of the return on investment of having a lifetime employee. The interdependency of the company and worker negates the need for aggressive labor unions to defend worker rights. Furthermore, this interdependency results in workers competing against other companies, and thus, their self-interest is to improve quality, raise productivity, and accept smaller wages, as dictated by the competition. This system came into being after World War II and primarily applied to large companies, especially manufacturing and advanced services. Japan needed to restore the…

During my second year of working for SLC, I had the worst experience in my life. As per the plan, I had to go to Japan for training for two months. I had been waiting for that chance for exactly a year. I was very excited for that too. However, I had to find someone myself to substitute me during training time because our head officer was in oversea. But I did not want to lose that chance as that was one of the reasons that I came to this organization. It was not also impossible to hire new employee for this short term period. Fortunately, I had a friend who is very active, and eager to work as a volunteer at our organization. So, I asked him for help then he agreed me. Finally, I left for training to Japan. I learned new things a lot in my training and made many friends from international youths. I did not have any communication with SLC during my training because I believe my friend’s skill that she could do the job well. Two months later, I returned to my country and went to SLC. As soon as I saw our head officer, he suddenly seemed very stranger and got angry so I noticed that something happened at SLC. Coincidently, I went to him and greeted and said that nice to see you again. He replied nothing. What is wrong sir? I asked. Then, he told me everything that had happened during my trip. My friend was very addictive coffee. He cannot help drinking coffee 5 times in a day.…
