Even though some siblings who are not twins are also very close, Twins are closer than other siblings because one cannot duplicate the bond that was formed at conception and twins spend almost every minute together from conception. There are two leading types of twins: Identical and Fraternal. Identical twins happen when one fertilized egg splits, making two separate cell clusters. Fraternal twins develop from two separate eggs that are fertilized at or about the same time. Fraternal twins are similar to regular brothers and sisters who are the same age. The difference between Identical twins and fraternal twins is that the identical twins share a common appearance where fraternal twins look like regular siblings and rarely ever look the same. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) News reports last March that scientist have recently discovered a very unusual new type of twin called “semi-identical.” Based on the studies of Vivienne Souter, a geneticist at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, “their similarity is somewhere between identical twins and fraternal twins.
