Double standards are clearly represented in the novel by Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband, that talks about the position of women in the society. In this play, women are attributed to several things, for instance, an idea that women stand for the irrational, women have a wonderful natural feeling concerning a number of things. They are able to discover everything except the most obvious things in society. In addition to these, the play as well indicates that the life of a man is more important and valuable as compared to a woman’s life. Wilde’s An Ideal Husband highlights the role of women in society in the 19th century in England.…

I am using him as an example because I already know what could make this relationship stronger and what can make it last. I have commitment issues thus the on and off of our relationship. When things get tough I tend to do something to break up the relationship. I think in order to strengthen the relationship I need to work out my commitment issues. I know precisely why I have commitment issues I just do not want to dig up old memories and deal with them. I know that is not the best approach especially when it comes to my mental health but it is easier to run than to stay and deal.…

One piece of research into the breakdown of romantic relationships conducted by Thibaut and Kelly, can explain why a relationship may breakdown using the Social Exchange Theory. A relationship may breakdown due to the ‘profits’ and ‘losses’ in the relationship, one of the participants in the relationship may compare the current relationship to a previous one and realise they are not getting what they should be out of it. However, Hatfield’s Equity Theory suggests that individuals in a relationship are not trying to maximise the benefits and minimise the costs, but the happiest individuals were the ones where the rewards for both parties were equal. Therefore,…

The four characteristics that define intimate relationships are behavioral interdependence, needs fulfillment, emotional attachment, and emotional availability. Behavioral interdependence is how people affect one another mutually daily as their lives link. One person influences what the other wants to do, and can do. Relationships that have intimacy fulfill psychological needs and through other relationships one can fulfill needs such as intimacy, social integration, nurturance, assistance, and affirmation. Emotional attachment within relationships involves strong bonds, such as love, sex, religious beliefs, and sharing. The last characteristic is emotional availability that means the ability to give and receive emotionally without the feelings of hurt or rejection. Building relationships involve a degree of risk because no one knows what the other is bringing to the relationship (especially when it is new), until one can share, trust, and care.…

    Perfect Wife

Some of the characteristics I believe my wife would want from me would be to get along with her family and relatives. She would want this because families stick together and since I’m going to be part of the family I would have to get along with them. Probably the most important characteristic my wife would want from me would be to be reasonable with the work that needs to be done around the house. Do everything in a 5050 basis. My wife wouldn’t like to be the only one that has to mop, wash dishes, dust off the cabinets and clean the restroom. We would have to share those chores. My wife would also want to have the same religious beliefs, because I know how much a girl cares about getting married by the church with…
