IBM’S DECADE OF TRANSFORMATION: TURNAROUND TO GROWTH

1.- INTRODUCCIÓN:
Hemos analizado el caso IBM´s Decade of Transformation: Turnaround to Growth, en el que podemos visualizar la transformación de la empresa a través de décadas, en las cuales la compañía ha tenido sus alzas y bajas y los ajustes que cada Dirección General ha tenido que implementar para efecto de sacar a la empresa del hoyo en que se ha sumido y el volverla a posicionar en el lugar que le ha correspondido a través de la historia como la compañía líder que es. En este caso podemos ver que las estrategias y las organizaciones o estructuras que han funcionado en unas épocas, en otras estás se vuelven ineficientes y obsoletas, que los Directivos que en ella laboran deben de tener la visión para hacer los cambios o giros necesarios que garanticen el logro de los objetivos que la empresa se ha fijado.
El giro de la empresa ha sido muy dinámico y la tecnología se ha venido desarrollando constantemente, así como las necesidades y exigencias de los clientes, por ello a la estructura de la compañía se le ha tenido que quitar la rigidez con que operaba, se le ha hecho más flexible, lo que le facilita ajustarse a los cambios en el mercado.
2.- DESARROLLO:
Bajo la Dirección de Thomas Watson Jr., IBM se convirtió en la empresa dominante a nivel mundial en la creciente industria de TI. El éxito de IBM durante los 60´s y 70´s fue primero el desarrollo del sistema 360 para las PC’s la primera familia de computadoras basadas en chips de semiconductores integrados intercambiables en sus componentes, en el mismo período también se tuvo un desarrollo en las TI en el cual se implementó un lenguaje llamado Fortran para PC’s y se agregaron periféricos como el disco duro, el floppy entre otros.
IBM apostó por una tecnología innovadora, es decir, estableció una cultura sólida de orgullo y lealtad en sus empleados, desarrolló una ética laboral de apertura
