ISIS In Iraq

ISIS is a terrorist group with the goal of establishing a caliphate, which is an Islamic state led by a group of religious authorities under a supreme leader. The leader is called the caliph, who is believed to be the successor to Prophet Muhammad. ISIS believes they are representing Islam with their violent cleansings; however, actual muslims do not even consider ISIS as a religious figure. They are simply just cruel terrorists that want to spread their influence over the whole world. ISIS wanted to establish a caliphate in Mosul because it is Iraq’s second largest city, next to Baghdad. In 2014, the militants achieved this when they defeated the Iraqi army. Ever since then, Peshmerga forces, Iraqi troops, U.S. advisors, and coalition forces have fought against ISIS to liberate the areas that they’ve managed to control.
The Peshmerga are a Kurdish military group. The Kurdish people are one of the largest ethnic groups in the world that don’t have their own country. These people are from Kurdistan, an area in northern Iraq. The U.S. forces will support the fight against ISIS by training the military brigades. Also, the coalition forces will carry out precision airstrikes and equip the soldiers. Loyal tribal and self-defense units of Iraq will also be used to provide security once the militants have been expelled from the city.
