I’ve witnessed firsthand the miracles that nurses can work and I know that every nurse is somebody’s hero. Likewise, the most inspirational people in my life have been nurses and I strive each and every day in my classes to absorb as much information as I can, in hopes that one day, somebody will say the same thing about me. I believe that one of the most vital choices you can make in your life is that of which school you decide to attend. My ultimate career goal is to become a Lead Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and I know USF would provide me with the kind of premium education that would ensure my success.…

I hope to be a neonatal nurse. To aspire this goal, I will attend a four year college that offers pre-med opportunities as well as access to early internships. After graduation, I plan to apply to a med school in Oregon or California. The reason I plan to be a neonatal nurse has to do with the fact I want to make a change in someone's life. When I was eight years old, my baby brother was born premature due to the use of drugs. He was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for three months. He is now ten years old and has a weak immune system. My aunt, who is like a mother to me, had a checkup a week prior to her due date and found out that her baby had lost four pounds. My baby cousin is now nine months old and healthy. Seeing these kids…

I want to become a Nurse Practitioner because I want to be able to help other people regarding their healthcare needs. I have been told my compassion for others is wonderful, and that I have a healing/calming energy surrounding me. As a NP I will have more legitimacy in advocating for my client to his or her M.D. As a Nurse I too have some clout, but not in comparison to having an NP. I think M.D.’s question why a person hasn’t tried to the best of their ability to become educated to the highest standard possible when listening to a Nurse’s concern. Like it or not, this is a mindset of some.…

The decision to go into health care was an easy decision for me. It started with the birth of my cusin, he was born premature. He weighed two pounds 13 ounces; he needed specialized care which was provided by neonatal nurses. Neonatal nursing is a relatively new specialty by comparison to adult health, midwifery, or other areas of nursing. Because it is new, there are great opportunities for nurses to devote their skills to newborns who need specialized care. Neonatal refers to the first 28 days of life. Neonatal care, as known in specialized nurseries or intensive care, has been around since the 1960's (AACN, 2010). I was in awe of how they cared for my cusin. When it was time for my cusin to be released I knew I wanted to be a nurse. With life you never know what is coming your way, I did not pursue the field because life happened got married and had three more children. I did not forget that I wanted to be a nurse just couldn’t get it in my grasp.…

“Ms. Davis, could you go prep the patient in room 313 for surgery?” asks the surgeon. I simply reply with a head nod and quickly rush down the narrow halls of the clinic while grabbing the appropriate equipment to get the patient ready for the procedure. “What am I” or “What am I doing”, many may ask. This is me seven years from now achieving my goal of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I have always maintained that one of the most difficult things I have ever done in my life was obtain my Associate’s Degree in Nursing. It was a vigorous and competitive program in which I found myself sometimes laughing and crying at the same time. I have always been pretty realistic about life, not too much of a dreamer, no delusions of grandeur, and never an anticipator of special treatment. My parents were old school, always taught us kids that we should expect to receive back only what we put into something; hard work always pays off. When I began my academic journey, late into my thirties, I was nervous about how I would measure up to the younger students, I mean, they were pretty used to going to school so they were already sort of…
