I Want To Go To St. Mary's Academy
I believe that St. Mary's Academy will help me become the young woman I want to be by being apart of a community that is accepting and understanding. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community and some people have made fun of me, and sometimes people would't accept me for who I am, they also said that I just wanted to go to St. Mary's because I am gay, but I just love how people made a school for women and everyone understands how hard it its to be one because people can be sexiest also think that men are more superior than women but I just want to be in a place where people can accept me, this will help me feel more comfortable and I will gain more self-confidence also help me feel better about myself. I've had a lot of problems in life but that didn't

Although I was nervous, staff and students did their best to create a positive learning environment. Going into my sophomore year, I received the same positive energy from the staff and my peers. My guidance counselor, Ms. Hunter, helped me to prepare and offered me the opportunity to enroll in…

I started my education at St. Mary Basha Catholic School at age 6 in 2003. I remember learning how to count and making friends. In kindergarten and first grade my best friend was Bo. Bo and I would hang out at recess and at lunch, sometimes we would hang out outside of school as well. Bo left the school after first grade and I made a new best friend for the next three years named Mitchell. We would have BB gun wars in the park by his house and when he came to mine we would go swimming. I remember a lot of the kids from St. Mary's because it was a small school and everyone new each other, however I decided to move to a public school after fourth grade.…

Southern Methodist University’s mission statement resonates with the same values I admire about a University such as “promoting an environment emphasizing individual dignity and worth”. Growing up I lacked essential self-worth. Upon beginning highs school I was very confused and frustrated person. I was learning to accept myself for being gay and the conservative and traditional environment I was in made it difficult for me to express who I was. The misrepresentation and disrespect I gained from being a double minority in high school fueled a passion in me which became the catalyst for positive change in my academic career. Since I began to attend Tarrant County College, I have joined the Cornerstone honors program offered at the campus and…

In 1984 a case before the Supreme Court limited the scope of Title IX (King, n.d.). Grove City College (GCC), in Grove City, Pennsylvania, took pride in being a private, coeducational liberal arts school that refused state and federal financial assistance (Ware, 2007). This gave them independence from federal regulation (Ware, 2007). GCC did have a large number of students that received Basic Educational Opportunity Grants (BEOG’s) issued through a Department of Education (DOE)-run program (Grove City, n.d). The DOE concluded these grants made GCC subject to Title IX (Grove City, n.d). When GCC refused to comply with the requirements of Title IX, the DOE attempted to terminate the student financial aid program (Grove City, n.d). GCC challenged the DOE’s actions all the way to the Supreme…

My parents wanted me to go to Young Harris where there is nothing to do, like Pickens, to assure I wouldn’t get into any trouble. I didn't want that for myself, I knew I wanted a semi-city environment to help transition into a more busy area such as Atlanta, where I plan to move post graduation. After long nights of arguing about my future, my parents finally gave in and let me enroll at KSU. After enrolling at KSU I declared my major as Biology. As far as long term goals go I aspire to be a dermatopathologist and plan to later enroll into medical school. I was offered to chance to join a learning community so I took advantage of the opportunity as the email I received portrayed it to be a very beneficial experience. But at the same time I am a “first generation” student and I have absolutely no idea what i'm doing or if joining the community was ,or is, a great decision. I’m not exactly sure what I'm supposed to gain but I'm hoping for more individualized learning and the opportunity to be comfortable enough to ask for help in my classes.…

Hi, I’m Suzzana, I think you know that by now. I’m currently attending Camden County College. I am transferring because as you might know, most community colleges are two year schools. Community College has been great for me. I was never achievement orientated when I was in grade school. I was enrolled in an alternative school since the 8th grade. I was behind in my academics, but I would like to say I compensate in life experience. When I was younger around the age of 9 I was bullied a lot. I was chubby and I increasingly gained weight at that time. My influx of weight was the baggage of my emotions and my families struggles. My parents divorced when I was 10, my mom was escorted out by police. I only had my dad for a year. Then, I had missed…
