Soul music, is music that was originated in black America gospel singing, is closely related to rhythm and blues, and is characterized by intensity of feeling and earthiness. Soul music is more of a calming type of music, it's has songs from regret and hate, to love and happiness. The song I've chose was "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge. This song is somewhat slow and also talks about love. And the instruments in this song just make it more enjoyable.…

Often, the lyrics to a song are what appeals to fans, and in a cover song, it is common to see some change in the lyrics from the original version. While most of the words are the same in both versions, in Houston’s cover version, the words “My darling, you…” (Houston), are present. This change emphasizes the difference of the intended meaning for the song. While both songs focus on a person, this version gives no doubt that there is a romantic interest involved. While the song ‘s origin may be specific to Dolly Parton, its sentiment remains universal. The woman in the songs knows a relationship is over, but still values the time she spent with the person she is leaving. She still wants the best for him. A main message of the song is that love…

We start the chapter with a description of Parry through Jed “No longer the Indian brave, despite the pony-tail”. McEwan really sets the scene with this as it gives us a clear picture of how Parry actually is. Shortly afterwards Jed’s scientific side comes out as he starts to re-assure himself that Parry is really harmless and that is was the accident that clouded his judgement. We feel a sense of relief as we now are told Parry is not threat as he is a “harmless fellow with a strange notion”.…

My most listened to song is Alex Days and Carrie Hope Fletcher’s rendition of Faith Hill’s “This Kiss”. It tells of a story about two people who fall in love. Before they found each other, they were hurt by previous relationships but when they meet, they spark an indescribable romance. Throughout the song, they symbolize their love by their kiss. This song does support my values of commitment, happiness, and love.…

The song, “Meant To Be” by Florida Georgia Line, represents my belief that something destined to happen will happen, and often you have to just let it. For example, when my dad passed away I was too young to really know what it meant, but I remember telling myself that he wasn’t in pain anymore. The phrase “If it’s meant to be, it’ll be, it’ll be” helps me believe that we just had to let it happen because he was meant to be pain free after six years of fighting. Repetition is used in the phrase “baby, just let it be” to represent that you just have to let things happen. Imagery is used in the phrase “baby, just lay on back and relax, kick your pretty feet up on the dash” to illustrate that you just have…

For my popular source, I chose the song That’s How You Know by Demi Lovato. This song was featured in Disney’s 2007 film Enchanted and the lyrics explain how a man should show his affection towards a woman and how to tell her he loves her. “It’s not enough to take the one you love for granted. You must remind her or she’ll be inclined to say, ‘How do I know he loves me?’” said Lovato. The song also gives advice to women on how to know whether their significant other truly loves them. “Does he take you out dancing just so he can…

Love is a word that can be described in many ways. In the song “Toxic” by Britney Spears, poison is defined as love, an addiction that one cannot escape. When one is in love, one is usually in a state in which they are oblivious of all their exterior surroundings and can only focus on one thing: the person they love. In fact, that love develops into an addiction. That is where I believe the problem lies. Adolescents and young adults throw their lives away in the early stages of their lives because they feel as if they cannot operate without having their loved one with them at all times. This in effect, causes them to stop studying that leads to bad grades and takes away their opportunities in the future. To avoid this problem, a Buddhist approach…

Love has different meanings to different people. True love is not based on how good looking a person is. I think true love should be about how much you care about a person and how much you guys have in common. For example in the article “ Is There Live at First Sight” author Elliot Cohen stated that love should have common ground. “ Is he articulate? Does the tone of his voice resonate well with you? Are her morals , as expressed ,consistent with your own”(Cohen5). True love should have trust and commitment. True love is when you meet someone and say this is the person that I want to be with in my life. It’s not when you see someone and think they are good looking and want to be with them. Love should be when you love someone because of their personality and what kind of person they are.…

“The greatest Music comes from an emotional identification with those that do not have.”- Musician Brandford Marsalis. In this quote Marsalis is stating that Music is supposed to be familiar to people in the same emotional situation. Singing about being broken when you have money does not benefit your audience. The audience want to hear artists that are in the same situation that there in. When artists from the late 1900s wrote their music, they included more about the experience and emotional background that their image or current surroundings. Emotions that was sincere instead of being counterfeit. In order to sing about a love, that person would have been in or currently in love. “The fact that we ignore the very thing that made the song, which is heart, the feeling we are missing so much today” – Musician Les Paul.…
