I Am Number Four Essay
Growing up I read almost everyday. Reading took me to places I never thought I would go. I've been an alien fighting against others to save earth, a lost bird looking for my mother, a highschool kid going through what every other high school kid goes through. Of course that was before technology took over my life but I still manage to pick up a book every now and then.

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore, one of the most interesting books I've ever read, is the first book in the Lorien Legacies series. I originally only started reading this book because we had to read two books to past the class. At first I would just skim through it just to get an idea of what it was about but after a few chapters I started actually reading it and it was one

When I was little I didn't think much of it but now I see how it helped me. In a way Happy to be Nappy by Bell Hooks and Chris Raschka taught me self love. Happy to be Nappy had all types of black hair in it; Short, long, twisted, braided, every natural hair style you can think of and that's what I liked about it. Being little and having different hair than most of my classmates made me feel different but each time I read this book with my mom I gained a little more confidence in that …show more content…
I remember when I learned to read I felt like I could do anything. One of the first books I learned to read was Are You My Mother? by P.D Eastman. I read this book everynight with my mother before bed. I'm not sure exactly what impact this book had on my life but I know that in a way it made me appreciate my mom more. The bird in the story asked every animal if they were his mother and they said no but then he found her, another bird just like him, just for him. My mom used to tell me that she was custom made for me and I was custom made for her just like the birds mom in the book was for

The book I chose was Educating Esme: Diary of a Teacher’s First Year by Esme Raji Codell. I chose this book because I honestly judged it from the title on the book review assignment page and found this to possibly be something that might help me in my journey into becoming a teacher. I found this book to very amusing and very touching. I thought that Esme's attitude and writing style was funny and easy to read and understand. One of my favorite stories in the book is the one when Esme made Billy Williams teach the class for a day because he was misbehaving. Esme threatened suspension to Billy for cursing and being disrespectful, so he accepted the punishment of teaching the class for the day instead of suspension. I thought it was great that he was able to mimic and recite specific lines that Esme used even though he didn’t always seem…

The book I chose for my book club is “The Skin I’m in”, written by Sharon G. Flake. After Sharon’s daughter was born it gave her the inspiration and dedication to write. Flake wrote short stories for her daughter, and read them at her daughter's daycare. She then wanted to write children's books with an African-American emphasis, this lead to her purpose of writing “The Skin I’m in”. The book was published in 1998 making this Sharon G. Flake debut novel. My reasoning for choosing this book was the content and environment the story is written in. It takes place in a diverse school and community, targeting younger students to love themselves the way God made them. I enjoy books that are sweet, simple, and straight to the point and this book accomplished that. It was easy to read and I can definitely recommend it to my future students to learn a valuable lesson.…

Throughout my childhood I would avoid books as much as possible simply because I never enjoyed reading like others did. When I did read, it would be because I discovered a really good series. Other than that I wouldn’t read because I never grew up with being read to, so I didn’t find it enjoyable.…

I could spend hours on end wrapped up in a good book. I confess… I don’t spend as much time reading as I would like to, but when I get around to it I can’t put the book down. My favorite book as a child was The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, this little book really sparked my interest in reading and carried me forward into my love for learning.…

Although there is much I can’t recall from my early days of reading, there are some momentous flashbacks. When I was beginning elementary school my parents were very eager to introduce me to doing a great deal of reading, they wanted me to enjoy reading for a while and they succeeded. We lived within walking distance of the public library which allowed us to frequently visit the library to read and check out books. I always remembered the vast shelves of books that seemed like they never had an end. In addition to reading at the library we checked books out to bring home to read, this allowed me to read as much as I wanted to. Correspondent to the amount of reading I did, the more I enjoyed it and improved at reading.…

I love to read because of my mother. When I was young I disliked reading and preferred to watch movies instead. To get me to enjoy reading my mother would read stories to me and I would read along with her. One day my mother read only classic books from our houses to San Antonio, Texas. We read Little women, Great Expectations, Treasure Island, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Ten Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, plus more. I remember how her voice made the words on the pages come to life. She would very her tone for each character and made each one unique. It was like watching a one man play. I soon wanted to read the stories by myself because I was always in a rush to know the ending; reading to myself was faster than my mother reading aloud to me. Every time I read I can still…

The first books I ever started reading were Winnie the Pooh and Dr Suess books. When I was young my parents were really good about getting me started with reading different books and for a long time I loved reading, as long as it was books I got to choose and enjoyed reading myself. Once I got further along in school and they started mandating what books we had to read I got to the point where I didn’t find reading enjoyable any longer. I didn’t like most of the books my teachers were picking for us to read so I felt like I had to force myself to read them and it caused me to even stop reading books outside of school…

Reading was fun when it was newly acquired skill. I was excited to read to my parents when they returned home from work. I remember reading my favorite book series by R.L. Stein (Goosebumps) while in the second and third grades. The series was about hauntings that affected teenagers. I remember my favorite book in the series was Piano Lessons Can Be Murder. I could relate to that because at the time, I was taking piano lessons.…

Over the years, my interest and awareness regarding reading and writing have varied from time to time. I remember my mother reading bedtime stories to me as a child and actually painting my personal pictures to what she was saying. Once I was old enough to read the stories myself, I would go back and compare my mental pictures with those that were in the book. During my elementary days, I found the novice level of reading and writing to still be interesting. Everything from transferring imaginary stories I had thought of onto a sheet of paper to tell the entire class about my church league team winning the basketball championship the previous Saturday, I thoroughly enjoyed writing and felt I had a personal connection to it.…
