I Am Diversity
The world that I come from proves that I am diverse because I have moved from a white majority school to a high school with a very diverse community. The high school that I am now enrolled in is mainly populated by Hispanics. This has made me a diverse person because I have been introduced to different cultures than my own. I am accepting to all beliefs and cultures because mine was accepted when I switched school districts. The school that I came from had a certain way of living and doing something different was considered “weird” and “uncool”.If you seemed unusual to them you would not be accepted. At the school that I now attend students feel free to wear what they want without judgment, they feel free to speak their native language, and

To many in America, I am diversity. I represent a minority group, I am the exotic elephant in the room, and I am who companies include to up their diversity intake. My culture is the outline for my entire life; while it doesn't define me, it has changed and impacted my life is different ways. Diversity is the basis of all communities, and tolerance is a result of educating oneself on this topic. A group may be diverse in nature, but if not tolerant, they are not succeeding in being diverse in action. My life as an Indian-American student in a upper-middle class neighborhood may not seem to give much insight on diversity, but my experience has not been stereotypical. From an early age, my parents surrounded our family with Indians. It was not…

Diversity is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as “the state of being diverse” and “a range of different things”. To say that my family is diverse is an understatement. Not only do I have fourteen siblings, many of my siblings come from different countries, continents, cultures, and races. Because my family is large and multicultural, I have been exposed from a young age to the importance of diversity. Due to my early and prolonged exposure to diversity, I am no stranger to change and embrace it like an old, long lost friend.…

-1This acclaimed movie which highlights the racial stereotypes that exist in America was a classic example portraying how everyone without much thought has some sort of prejudgment in the way they treat others of different races. This paper will examine my reactions to this classic movie and explain how it represented the diverse culture we have in contemporary America. I have seen Crash many times and have always been amazed at the realness of the subject matter and great example of the melting pot of cultures of the country we live in. As I watched the movie in class, I was able to relate to the characters more closely because what I saw on film is matched very closely at my workplace. I agree with many of the portrayals of the stereotype that were shown as I feel I have been affected by them. The movie producer’s efforts in showing the different cultures and the way they co-exist are very believable.…

One blind spot I think I had at the start of the semester was the idea about disability. When you mention disability, I can honestly say that I always thought of the physical forms of disability. So when it came to helping accommodate for disabilities I would naturally think of things like wheelchair ramps or special seating in the offices. I never considered the fact that “invisible” disabilities were present in the workplace. Now when you say disability I think of not only the physical but also the mental and learning disabilities that can affect people within the workplace.…

I acknowledge their struggle and I will do all I can to understand their culture and lifestyle by learning as much as I can about them as our nations first people. By having a genuine interest in Aboriginal/TSI culture and including this within the service will develop greater relationships and a better understanding between people on all levels. A strong commitment to anti-discrimination and tolerance within the workplace will provide all children and staff with a safe and happy environment, where we will learn and live with respect, consideration…

My diversity begins with my family's emigration to the United States in 1997. Migrating from a rural and quiet city like Namangan Uzbekistan, to Queens New York proved to be extremely difficult. The fall of the Soviet Union and the independence of Uzbekistan in 1991 brought Islamic revivalism to the country and with it, the persecution of the Jewish populace that lived there. Threats of violence and slander ensued and eventually, my family had fled the country. We arrived to America in hope of an inclusive environment where we would be able to freely practice our religion without fear of retribution. Through this experience, I've learned the importance on maintaining an open mind and an inclusive attitude. People from all backgrounds and religions…
