Don’t you think it is hypocritical by identifying every individual’s race/ethnicity?
- How I am a hypocritical based on your values and perspectives? The reason I want to stress about others’ identity because I want to pinpoint others’ cultural pros and cons while encouraging people to diversify the culture instead of assimilating into the American culture.
- Identifying a person’s race, ethnicity, and cultural background is not trying to form a stereotype about them but getting to know them better. Of course, there is individual difference. But I only pointed out those few Indian/Pakistani “internationals” while stating that I don’t find any of my Indian/Pakistani friends having the same smell. You assume that I think all of them smell bad. Why? I stated those adjectives “some” “a few” in front of their identities. I did not generalize them.
- You assume that I might not be right with their identities. How do you know? Based on my linguistic skill, I can distinguish south Asian accents after I have watched some Indian movies with English subtitles. Or you think I simply identify people’s ethnicity and country of origin by their skin color? Do you really think I am a hypocritical racist? You DO actually.
- You argue that How do I know if the person is definitely Indian/Pakistan? What if they are not? Then, should I get an answer for you by asking them one day to confirm your suspicion? I can do that just for this.
- You’re saying that because I complain about “some” or “a few” of their smell mixing with sweat and spices while identifying their identities is discriminating against them by confirming to “the stereotype that all Indians and Pakistanis have an unpleasant smell”.
