Hypocrisy In Greg Elliot's Tweets
I took some time to read some of Greg Elliott’s tweets. Let me say that Elliot is a vulgar man, and I find his commentary generally tasteless and crude, but nothing he has tweeted amounts to anything more offensive than cussing and mild misogyny. Moreover, the accusations against Elliot are of online harassment, but since when did criticizing political figures on a public account amount to harassment? To this mountain of debauchery, we can add hypocrisy, for Guthrie had continued all the while to criticize Elliot on her own anonymous Twitter profile during the whole dispute.
The above shows an example of Elliot’s humour as he tweets a play-on-words rebuttal to one of the woman’s twitter username (@ladysnarksalot)
I have no doubt that you will see this for the blatant abuse of our justice system that it is and as well as a terribly dangerous attack on our freedom to express ourselves politically online. It seems that public figures can attempt to and even destroy the lives and careers of people who criticize them, and then go to the courts to accuse these critics of bullying. I believe they deserve to have their tyrannical behavior called out for what it is. Yes, I believe that bullies should be stood up to and brought to justice but I also believe that if

She asked him indirectly over twitter, “Do you punch women in the face IRL (in real life) or just on the Internet?” and asked her Twitter followers to retweet the whole shebang to gain more attention. And in an attempt to make herself feel better about his negative tweets towards her she used her hoard of followers to destroy his life and try to chase him off the internet for good. She even tweeted some of his prospective employers and gave the local newspaper a link to a story about the game, popularizing the twitter spat and shaming

The case we received was Ed Franklin, a former teacher at public and private schools in Minersville, pled guilty to state criminal charges of sexually molesting several of his former students. One of Franklin's victims was invited to appear at Franklin’s sentencing hearing in order to testify about the impact of the molestation. While the hearing was open to the press and public, the judge ordered the reporters present not to identify any of the sexual assault victims in press accounts of the sentencing. None of the reporters present at the hearing raised any objection to the judge’s order. Despite the order, a reporter for the American Press news syndicate included the victim’s name in coverage of the hearing.…

In the Oakes case the judgement that was passed was correct because even though Section 8 of the NCA is a problematic section, Oakes clearly violated Section 11(d) of the Charter and brought in the question of the objective of the legislation and because of this it coined the term and test “Oakes test” that is used to settle other disputes on Charter issues. In the Keegstra case he was fined which was a appropriate sanction. He should be fired and fined but not incarcerated as his crime was inappropriate but he was still exercising his right to free expression. Keegstra’s case is tricky because laws allow freedom of expression but it is limited. You cannot harm others and his words were targeting other social groups causing harm because his beliefs were…

I believe that’s all fine and dandy but once you put your credibility on the line and make derogatory remarks concerning gays that cred is very hard to get back. Rowe obviously has hatred for this man’s comments and even more disgusted that people are still eating at Chik-Fila after all this. One statement I was interested by Rowe was when he said that Cathy making millions and he’s doing it cynically at the expense of other human beings then sharing that blood money with others like…

In So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed, Jon Ronson explores different stories about public shaming and how they come about. Ronson never gives us a clear thesis on what should be done about the act of public shaming. But rather he lets us make our own inference. Cry bullies: are just bullies that bully others and then somehow play the victim. It’s ridiculously disturbing and it does suck. What is worse, is that they can even abuse someone. In mizzou university or in missouri “they were dealing with something dangerous: students are trying to silence their critics. They want to muzzle those who disagree with them.” We wish they were animated and bogus but it happened and they are palpable and it is happening in real life. It is like garbage that always keeps filling up until the dumpster is full. We the people need to alleviate and think of how do we block the cry bullies from the public so that we feel secure, and they are approximately like killer clowns. They do physically hurt the innocent but I…

Judith Cooke Acting Manager Equity and Social Justice Branch Victoria University Melbourne "Bullying activates our ancient and existential fear of being excluded, and shatters our basic assumptions about ourselves, the world and other people, leading to severe biological problems" (Einarsen, 2000). Discrimination can turn into bullying, but bullying isn’t necessarily discrimination” (VicHealth, 2001,p.14) Abstract This paper is provides some background information provides on bullying and discrimination and is intended to serve as a discussion starter within the workshop. It includes some of the findings from the author’s research. The workshop session will explore the implications for equity practitioners in universities in dealing with complaints of bullying and in developing appropriate procedures. What is bullying? In the absence of a universally agreed definition, the first difficulty to address is definitional. Bullying is a process most of us are quick to recognise when we are the targets and slow to acknowledge when we are the perpetrators. It might be easier to consider what bullying is not. It might be suggested that the following acts are lawful, legitimate, proper and normally appropriate means of inducing another to comply with what can be generically termed a "request". I. A supervisor asks a staff member to do something clearly within their position description in a straightforward way orally or in writing. 2. A coordinator asks a teacher to take on board received criticism, whether by way of response to refutable allegations or by way of discussion of possible improvement. Such a request would be one to one and not done in a way reasonable people would class as humiliating, disingenuous, coercive or serving other agendas. 3. A group asks an individual to take on board its concems without threat of sanctions at the first stage of such communication. 4. A supervisor refuses a request for leave, time…

Facts: Sharon Yeagle was the assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs at the Polytechnic Institute and State University. Her job included aiding students in their applications to the Governor’s Fellows Program, an academic honors program. The Collegiate Times, the university’s newspaper, printed an article that included a large print block quotation that described Yeagle as the “Director of Butt Licking”. Yeagle sued the newspaper claiming that the phrase defamed her since that the act described is a violation of the state sodomy statue, thus accusing Yeagle of a crime that she didn’t commit. She claimed that the phrase harmed her reputation by associating her with a lack of integrity and deviancy. The trial court dismissed the case claiming that the phrase was not defamation, and Yeagle appealed to the Virginia Supreme Court (Calhoun).…

“Cruelty to others is nothing new, but online. Technologically enhanced shaming is amplified uncontained and permanently accessible” (Lewinsky, 2015). This is one of the many things Monica Lewinsky (2015) sates in her talk “the Price of Shame”. Lewinsky (2015) has been known for having an affair with former president bill Clinton, due to this affair she has been a victim of public humiliation and shaming. Lewinsky (2015) argues how humiliation and public shamming can lead to negative outcomes and, that this culture of shaming and public humiliation needs to end and can be with compassion and empathy. I come to an agreement with an agreement with Monica Lewinsky’s (2015) argument for the reasons being; society today has a great concern…
