Hyper-Sexualizing Little Girls
The identity group that I will be addressing is little girls, and how they're being hyper- sexualized by the media, marketing, and other cultural messages. Creating stereotypes imposing them to act in adult or sexual ways. Also, I'll be showing examples and how this affects girls in the long term in their growing personality. On this Date October 11, the International day of the Girl, a day declared by the United Nations with a mission to bring awareness to the issues that girl around the world are suffering. Also, it empowers girls in leadership and to achieve their full potential. That is why I believe this is an important issue to talk about.

Girls From the Age 1 to Age 15 , in pageants get fake Tan, makeup, Manicure , eyelashes extensions, even wigs. Creating fake beauty standards. Being a doll its practically being an object. Plus they have to conquer the audiences, by flirting with them and the judges. And at the end they can decided which one is more "Beautiful" creating Low self stem in those who "lose".
There's this Show on TV called Toddlers and Tiaras, where you can see how the sexualization of girls has gone so far. In one chapter in the custom section of the pageant a girl went dressed as Julia Roberts on Pretty Woman (Prostitute), the one with the blue skirt and the white see through shirt with the high boots. It's just outrageous. But it is not only on pageants, we can see this same example in Fashion magazines, ads, music videos, and toys. For example, toy companies sell dolls that wear miniskirts, and short shirts with high heels. This reminds me of my childhood where I always wanted to be just like my Barbie, I thought being skinny and having a gorgeous look like a Barbie was the ideal body for a girl. Therefore, it is a double edged sword. Mass communication ( media, ads, social Networks ) is shaping our reality, especially an easy target like little girls. Media explicitly shows that for a girl the look is more important than the intelligence. The sexual appeal is a big seller , and they use it. Also, this objectification that the media creates toward girls, increase the idea that sexual violence is okay. In addition, little girls see that their icon (celebrity) is wearing a short skirt, leading them to imitate that on their Facebook, Instagram, etc again making them an easy target for pedophiles. There's no beauty in that childhood

    Layered makeup. Clouds of hairspray. False teeth and lashes. Exotic hairstyles and outfits. Provocative postures. Awkward facial expressions. This is the perfect description of Barbie, right? No. These are society’s pretty little girls spiraling down to destruction. For many years, young children, mostly girls, have spent way too many hours practicing a routine or exercising their smile to score high in the intense competition of child beauty pageants. These pampered princesses are brainwashed by their mothers to have one goal in mind: “get the money or get the tiara” (Grosaru 1).     Beauty pageants focus a lot on appearance and on how you present yourself. I believe that everyone is beautiful and I strongly believe that beauty comes within and not from the outside. However, children who grow up in the pageant industry, start to learn that a big part of the competition has to do with your physical attraction.     One would believe that a life of glamorous hair and make-up, beautiful gowns, and sparkling tiaras would be every young girls dream, unfortunately, for many, this dream often turns into a nightmare. For nearly fifty years children have been subjected to the world of beauty pageants where they have been forced to behave as young adults rather than the five year olds that they actually are. Young children spend numerous hours every day practicing speeches and model walks for upcoming pageants rather than focusing on schoolwork and playing with friends. With an emphasis placed on appearance in beauty contests, children become devastatingly concerned with the way that they look before many of them can walk. The lifestyle of child beauty pageant participants has proven to be one full of stress and negative self-evaluation which can ultimately lead to a number of mental and physical disorders as the children become older. While it is clear that beauty pageants can be damaging to its participants, especially ones who begin their career of pageantry at a young age, nothing is being done to solve this problem. Every pageant is independently organized and rules are specifically developed for each one. This variance in rules and guidelines allows an opportunity for anyone of any age to enter into beauty pageants. Pageant promoters, with little more than how much money they can obtain, do nothing to curb or change the aspects of pageants which lead to easily influenced children developing issues with their appearance and self-esteem. In order to put a stop to the lifelong negative effects of beauty pageants on young children, state laws need to be established, putting minimum age requirements and event restrictions on beauty pageants throughout the United States. TLC has found if you put that group on a reality television show you can gain viewers thus make money. The popular show many know is Toddlers and Tiaras.
