All about me

INTERESTS AND HOBBIES
I’ve have had a lot of different hobbies in my life, but then stopped and find new ones. I like to try new things, because if you stay doing the same thing for a long time, you don’t get to find out if there is something better for you. I even like to try things I’m not sure I am going to like, just to get to know them and then say completely convinced that they are not for me, because that makes you know a little more about yourself.
During my lifetime, I’ve done a lot of sports, such as swimming, gymnastics, ballet, volleyball, ice skating, jazz, and cheerleading. I’ve found out that I’ve learned a lot in team sports but I’m better as an individual person. Apart from that, I’ve tried to do a little bit of gardening and knitting, which I don’t really like, but can be relaxing. Right now I just like to read, write and paint.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
In Asuncion I was in the debate club for one semester in middle school.
I used to be part of the volleyball team of the school, for two years.
I was part of a volunteer club that had to do with decorating the school, and helping people in art class, for all three years of high school, and I enjoyed it really much.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
In my past school I was involved in poetry contests and won three times. In this contest you didn’t have to sign up, it was mandatory to learn a poem and say it in front of the class, and they chose the best ones of each class to compete against other people of the school.
I also won a medal in a long jump competition. This competition was every 2 years, and everyone had to sign up for at least one activity. You competed with the other Asuncion schools from all around the country. Me and my volleyball team won a medal in a district competition as well.
I have a diploma for academic excellence during middle school, that was given to people who have had 90% grades during all three years of middle school.

CHALLENGES
Everyone has faced challenges in their life, and personally, I think that challenges and difficult situations are the things that help you build the person you are now.
One of the challenges I’ve learnt the most, was one time I had a friend with anorexia. It all started because my parents didn’t have a good relationship, they were fighting all the time and I started to feel really lonely. I didn’t have friends in school, and I felt like I had nobody to talk to, and my self-confidence started to faith out. But then, a new girl came to the old school, her name was Ana. Ana and I started to hang out a lot, and after three years we became really close friends. At some point, I started to depend on her, because I felt like she was the only one who cared about me. But then I realized Ana had a lot of trouble in her house too, and she sometimes wanted me to do things that she did, that were not right. She had anorexia and bulimia. Thanks god, my parents stopped fighting and everything back home started to get better and better each day, and I started to have more and more friends. I started exercising, doing the things I liked to, and I looked for help for Ana, even though she changed school and wasn’t willing to help herself. Now that I look back, and find sometimes Ana with her friends, I realize I could be one of them now. And they all are involved in trouble. I’m glad that even though Ana and I were really close, and that she was my only friend, I never did the things she did. I had overcome the challenge of being influenced by other people, when I didn’t have anybody. What I’ve learned? You are never alone. You will always have yourself.

MISSION I will be hardworking, and I will do my best to achieve my goals
I wont be afraid to try new things as long as they dont have a negative effect on my health or in my person
I will satnd up everytime I fall, and I will try my best to learn from all of the bad experiences.
I will not have stereotypes, and I will treat people respectfully.
I will never give up on the things I love.

VALUES
Commitment is about how much time and effort you put on trying to accomplish your goals and I think is one of the most important values for humans, because it shows how interested you are on your own future and your own happiness.

Courage is important to me because even if you fall, you are not going to give up, and you will follow your dreams with confidence.

Wisdom Is important because it will make you learn from your mistakes, so every time you make one, you won’t think of it as a lost, but as a way to improve.

Respect is important because it will help you build healthy relationships with people, and feel peaceful inside.

Forgiveness is something that you will be needing while you are trying to reach your goals. Moving on is important, because humans make mistakes all the time, and the people who surround you are not the exception. Learn to see the good in the bad. Learn to choose your battles. Learn to forgive.

An interest I am most proud of is my career in competitive gymnastics. When I first began gymnastics, I did it recreationally, but I soon fell in love with it and decided to compete. I am now into my fourth competition season. I have competed at meets all over California, and have practiced hundreds of hours. Gymnastics requires hard work and dedication, but it is worth it because I genuinely love the sport. The skills are amazing, and it is a well-rounded sport that requires grace, strength, and flexibility. I have sacrificed many hours for gymnastics, but I have gotten a lot from it in return. I have met one of my best friends at gymnastics and some of my coaches have become like family to me. I have also discovered a lot about myself. Doing…

My favorite activity is going to the beach looking for sea glass. I find it to be very relaxing, and always exciting to see the “gems” I find. So any time I spend with them making memories is meaningful to me. I also enjoy going to the gym to keep fit. I try to include sports and activities besides my full-time job, attending college, and homework in my daily life because I believe it is important to be a well-rounded…

Being part of the Environmental Club I made sure to do whatever I could to promote environmental safety, how we could reduce the consumption of electricity and water. Knowing that our earth our home is being depleted of its natural resources it worries me that our future generations will not have a peaceful and beautiful environment. We also participated in Relay for Life where we promoted cancer awareness. With the recycle club we also encouraged people to recycle and distributed recycling binds around the school to all the staff members. The yearbook club allowed me to get to know my school better I would interview sports teams and create pages for them in the yearbook. In the Diversity club I was the Vice-President and our members promoted diversity within our school to help our school’s staff and students learn more about people’s different cultures and backgrounds. This required me to listen to others to let them know that I cared about what they were saying and how they felt. With the National Honors Society, I was able to help out with the Greensboro Interactive Resource Center, providing help for the less fortunate.…

I was involved in many service learning experiences all throughout highschool. I was on National Honors Society and we would ring bells for Salvation Army and adopt children around Christmas time. We often volunteered at schools to help watch children, while parents were receiving help in finding careers or when they were being helped in some other manner. However, my favorite service learning that I was involved in was helping coach Special Olympics. This service learning is one of the reasons I am becoming a teacher, and one of the main reasons why my focus is Special Education. I coached my team in soccer, basketball, and track. I loved every minute of it. I spent more time with those kids than I have with any other service learning combined. I coached them starting my sophomore year all the way until I left for college. It was hard leaving my team and I am upset that I cannot go back and see them more often. Service learning has made a huge impact on my life and is something that everyone should become involved with. When you find that one cause that you are passionate about helping with it can transform your life like it did…

I got several scholarship offers to small junior colleges and to Division 2 schools, however I wanted the big league. I decided to walk on at the University of New Mexico and play volleyball as I was confident that I could earn a scholarship and I did. After just one year I was offered a full ride scholarship to play volleyball at UNM. I still hold the record for most assists in a single game and 2nd and 3rd in several other categories. Volleyball really taught me about life. I learned the agony of defeat even when you were playing your best, I learned the thrill of victory and what it meant to be juggle weight lifting at 5am, classes all day, then practice for three hours after school and then to do homework. I also worked to earn extra money referring games on the weekends, and doing private coaching lessons as well. I learned how to be a leader when others were down, and how to pull from each other’s strengths. I also learned that life is not always fair. It was my senior year and we were not having a great season so my coach decided to bench me to give the younger players a bit more experience. I felt so betrayed. I had worked so hard to break the all-time record, and to be benched your senior year was…
