Hunters In The Snow Character Relationships
Hunters Bonding In The Snow Some friends are closer than others. Friendships change. Keeping someone’s close friendship can in some cases be viewed as a power struggle. At least, this is what happens to Tub in the story Hunters in the Snow. Tub goes hunting with two ‘friends’. One of his so-called friends spends the trip berating him and mocking him for his physical inabilities. This so-called friend is Kenny, someone who joins him and Frank in hunting insults him quite a bit throughout the story. They head out into the snowy wilderness with rifles looking to shoot some deers. Instead, the score of the hunt becomes Kenny, who Tub shoots out of what he perceives to be self defense. He takes Kenny’s friendship with Frank by force and bonds with Frank later on in the story. In truth though, their relationship suggests that Tub didn’t see Kenny as a friend. Tub hated Kenny. Kenny is shown as being very self-absorbed and carefree throughout the story. At the start, when picking up Tub, he nearly runs him over, not thinking about what Tub may have thought about the ‘prank’. This implies that Kenny is not aware or does not care about the state of those around him. This is shown again by his constant degradation of Tub for his weight. He constantly insults him and mocks …show more content…
However, their friendship is quite cold and they are quite cold with each other. Kenny is very mean to Tub and pulls two very dangerous pranks on Tub. When Tub shoots him, there is a huge change to the relationships between the characters. Kenny is cut out and the other characters cease to care about him, while they talk, have fun and bond. The story shows a lot of selfishness, with characters being completely unaware of the feelings and states of others. Tub and Frank became close friends. Their friend Kenny was left to bleed out while the two became close friends. Kenny was gone and two friends came

In the story “Snow Treasure” there was a situation when morality came into play. One of the German soldiers well at least they thought he was a german soldier who went by the name Jan Lasek. He was captured by Peters’s uncle Victor and his pal Rolls. The captive pleaded that they take him to America with him he told them that he wasn't a German spy but in fact Polish. He explained to them that the germans came into his country and cause nothing but misery they destroyed their homes stole their food and valuables and even killed many civilians. He also explained that when he was on his way to America and he was captured by what seem to be the police but was actually German spies portraying police. They kept him alive because they needed someone to translate for them because he studied languages. He was telling victor all he want to do is go to America and he would never side with the Germans after what they did with his people. Victor had to make the decision on weather if Jan Lasek was telling the truth and if he was should he keep him hidden on the boat. Victor decided that he would keep Jan on the boat despite the fact that the Germans would be looking for him because he’s a polish captive.…

“Hunters in the Snow” by Tobias Wolff starts out Tub waiting for his friends to pick him up. The suspense starts with rising action by his friends being over an hour late. I chose “Hunters in the Snow to be the more suspense than “The Cask of the Amontillado.” Hunters keeps the reader on edge by displaying three different personalities. Confrontation due to human nature. The reader may question whether they are going to show up at all. This is an example of rising action. When Frank and Kenny show up they most run over Tub. Frank and Kenny both team up against Tub. The friends are going hunting together and with the two against the other one it builds suspense of what will happen in the woods. While hunting, Kenny lets out he has a secret with Frank, Tub wants to know what the secret is. Kenny is obnoxious and dangerous with the rifle. He shoots the pole for no reason other than hating it, then he shoots the dog, and then aims the gun at Tub. This is leading to climax of the story. The reader may wonder if Tub is going to die at this point in the story and his friends leave him there to be found, or is Tub going to defend himself and shoot Kenny. Could Frank and Tub leave wounded Kenny or bury him? This is another rising action in the climax. The three friends tell the owner of the land that the dog has been shot. This is another example of suspense will the owner kill them for killing the dog or will he let them go? Kenny hasn’t told his friends the owner had asked him to shoot the dog, is how…

Truman Capote used several techniques to develop the characterization of the killers in his book, In Cold Blood. But primarily, Truman Capote uses anecdotes to describe the characters of Dick and Perry. An anecdote being, “a short and amusing or interesting story about a real incident or person.” He does this by describing their child lives, and how they became who they are in the present. An example of how Capote described the character of Perry is: “ He was seven years old, a hated, hating half-breed child living in a California orphanage run by nuns- shrouded disciplinarians who whipped him for wetting his bed.” Not only does he use anecdotes for describing Dick and Perry’s childhood but also their problems they face in their present lives at the time. Such as Dick’s sexual interests in younger girls, “ He was sorry he felt as he did about her, for his sexual interest in female children was a failing of which he was ‘sincerely ashamed.’” Or when Capote quotes Perry about the murder of Mr. Clutter, saying; “ I didn’t want to harm the man. I thought he was a very nice gentleman. Soft-spoken right up to the moment I cut his throat.” This quote describes and confirms how Perry was insane during the murders that he committed. Capote uses this quote on purpose, because it describes how Perry’s intention was not to hurt anyone but it was a simple act of taking his frustration upon the Clutter family. Meaning that his anger was not because of the Clutter family, they just ended up receiving the end of Perry’s anger.…

Really think about this, how do friends really treat each other? Do they ask their friends to come and tag along with them; or do they just say “ Hey I am going somewhere I will be back later?” In the novella Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie are supposed to be best friends, but they're not. In the beginning of the book the boss asks George if he was taking Lennie's paycheck, he says no, but Lennie can not take care of himself let alone him patcheak. What is a friend? According to the English dictionary, a friend is someone with whom an affectionate bond is shared with. This definition can be interpreted in many different ways in regards to what a friend does or the boundaries a friend has, but all interpretations have one thing in common and that is the special bond between people. The loss of a friendship is an inexplicable feeling that can often cause sorrow in one’s heart. In Hamlet, Polonius states: Neither a borrower nor a lender be, For loan oft loses both itself and friend, And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry (Act I Scene iii) In this quote, Polonius conveys the importance of conserving the special bond shared with another. Most Texas natives know that deer hunting is a tradition. However, some of us haven’t been on the other side of the scale, the hunted. Though hunting can be fun, I’ve learned to definitely be prepared for whatever happens. Last year I had my first experience and it was a crazy one. In two short days, I went from being the hunter to being hunted. For most Texans, hunting is fun, however proper preparation is key because one should avoid mistakenly taking an unloaded gun, be attentive to the surroundings, and should not set expectations.…

There was no visible light out. It was calm out tonight; mid night dew still fresh on my boots. The smell of fresh pine covered the bare spot of the forest I was now camped in. It was time to break camp; camping too long in one spot could give away my posion. I quickly put away the rest of the salted pork in my left leg pocket and mounted my gun on my right shoulder. I started to stand up, but very slowly as to not alert a fly. I finally reach mid standing (not quite standing, but not quite crouching.) I slowly creep forward, listening to every sound that I wasn't making. I crept slowly to the giant oak just one hundred feet east of my camp. It was still very early, and very dark. I finally made it to the oak and doing one more last check, I finally stood erect, confident that no one was around. As I started to head north of the oak, I placed the gun on my back and felt relived to not be on the look out for once. I began to do a slight jog. Fresh, crisp air began to fill my lungs, something that came to a nice surprise to my worn muscles.…
