Humorous Wedding Speech: A Good Name Or Brightseat?
Good Morning. I am Mario Undurraga, and he is Alonso Alegría. We are Group 1, but that’s not a good name, isn’t it? We like to call ourselves “BrightSeat”. Why? You will figure out later.

To begin with, let’s put you in a situation. You have a deadline to meet in a few days. You make yourself a good and strong coffee. And then, you sit and work. Hours tick and you start feeling uncomfortable, and a back pain begins. Has this ever happened to you? Personally, this happens to me regularly, and I’m sure that happens to many others. This problem is very common in school. We have to deliver long projects or even in the classroom, where we get inevitably uncomfortable and finish with back pain.

This happens because we use hard, rather small or huge

Now, we will show you the product and how does it work. As you can see, we took a broken chair and modified it. We attached to it some PVC tubes that fit inside each other so they can be moved and adjusted. And to fix and secure that position you love and feel that is comfortable, you just have to close a clamp with a screwdriver. Now, if you have grown up, or someone else wants to use it, you just have to open the clamp and adjust it again.

It adapts to any height brightly with a simple mechanism ergonomically

The total cost of the development of the prototype was about 4000 Chilean Pesos or 6 dollars and 26 cents. Pretty cheap, huh?

Right now, 83% of Elementary Schools use fixed chair-desk combinations of standard sizes. So we can assume we are working on a new market. There aren’t ergonomic chairs for schools.

Our chair meets the ISO-5970 quality standard for ergonomy in schools. There are many school furniture manufacturers that do not take account of this and many other standards.

Ergonomics in schools are almost not present. Help us change that!

Now that you know about our product, we invite you to see the prototype yourselves and to ask us anything about it. Thank you for

We began by making a simple full-size prototype with accurate angles and dimensions. We picked out an old chair that was at our dispense and were able to disguise it as the Robie 1 by attaching a long piece of cardboard with vertical dal rods to simulate the rungs in the back. This confirmed our suspicions that the 90° rigid back is uncomfortable and provides no lumbar support. Using the measurements from the dimensioned drawing, we found where the chair failed when compared to the anthropometrics of a human. With the seat at 18" high, it is 1.8" too short for the median man, 3.7" too short for the 99%, and .7" too tall for the 1%. This highlights the necessity for adjustable heights, however, we couldn't pin down how to make that work for a chair like this. Therefore, I will be drawing the chair for myself, with a seat at 20" high. The next issue deals with seat depth. At 17.9" deep, the chair is .8" too long for the median man, 2.7" too long for the 1%, and .5" too short for the 99%. However, after adding in the rule of having a fist-width between your leg and the edge of the chair, the seat is too deep for all of them. For myself, I estimate a necessary seat depth of 15". With a seat width of 15.75", it is 1.55" too wide for the median man, and 4.35" too wide for the 1%, and 1.15" too narrow for the 99%. However, the seat being wider than necessary is no problem, so I will leave it be.…

Specific needs – we have a child with mobility problems, who uses a walker to move around, thus when setting up the room we take this into account by using the walker to ensure he has enough space between furniture and that he can assess all areas and can move around safely and independently, (this also aides his social interactions with other children). In an older child’s classroom we have a child with hearing difficulties, in that class we ensure she can sit near the front of the class and that the classroom does not echo.…

It is important also to take into account any specific risk to individuals such as pregnancy, a sensory impairment or any other needs which may impact on the way you plan the environment or carry out activities. When planning activities and environments you should also take into account the specific needs of the young people you’re working with, such as the age, abilities and needs of them. You should be particularly aware of any special educational needs the children may have. Furniture should be an appropriate size for the children to sit comfortably whilst working. As we have a duty of care to children we should make sure the environment they are working in makes them feel comfortable and secure and be conducive to learning.…

In most schools, pupils will spend the majority of their time in a classroom. These rooms must be kept tidy and well organised, taking into account seating positions of individual children and addressing the physical needs of individuals. For example, if a child has any visual impairment, it would be important to seat that child in a well lit area, close to the front of the class where they can more easily see the teacherâ€TMs whiteboard. A child with a hearing impairment may also need to be close to the teacher. A child with SEN may need a desk in a bigger space than…

You should take any specific needs of pupils into account when setting up the environment-for example the age, abilities and needs of the children with whom you are working. You should in particular take note of any pupils who have special educational needs (SEN). Furniture should be an appropriate size for the age of the children, so that they are able to sit comfortably when working. Children should not be hunched over tables which are to small or have difficulty in sitting normally. Also all materials must be age appropriate for their level of development of all pupils, for example for young children, small objects are potentially a choking hazard.…

NTU students spend lots of time in tutorial rooms studying. However, the chairs in NTU tutorial rooms are uncomfortable. Seat pans and backrests are plastic and tables attached to right armrests are 20cm above the seat pans and too small to place taptops. Students complain about these chairs. According to our group’s survey, 70 of 72 SM2 students suffer backaches after long hours of writing sitting on the chairs. Since tables are fixed, most students are forced to bend down to write on the table for a long time, which puts a great strain on their backs and causes pain. Also, half students interviewed feel the illumination of rooms is inadequate. Therefore, we have modified the TR chairs to solve these problems.…
