Abstract
This essay will concentrate on the two types of trafficking and how America has over looked the problem all of these years. Those two types of tracking are labor and sex trafficking. The laws that have changed concerning human trafficking have changed in the last few years. A young frighten lonely girl has run away from home. What wait for her out in the big bad world is abuse, torture, and intimidation? A man will observe her and when he talks to her he will seem very compassionate. This poor unsuspecting child has no idea that this kind understanding man is in charge of the largest human trafficking type in the United States. I agree with Rebecca Clarren when she said “We like to think of slavery in America as something consigned to history books, a dark chapter set in Southern cotton plantations”. This is not true at all. Labor trafficking is going on in many places of the world today. The majority of trafficking victims are people that are working in everyday jobs in the United States. They could be our waiter or waitress, the lady that cleans and presses your clothes or the janitor in your local business. Labor trafficking consists of men, women and children that are that are deceived and coerced into this slave business. Labor trafficking is for a more appropriate expression this is a modern day slave trade is known as organized crime. People are used as slaves, long hours with little to no pay. This has prompted the government agencies to enact a toughened human trafficking law. The laws in the United States on Human Trafficking have improved. As of seven years ago, various states made human trafficking, a crime on the state level. In 2000 Congress Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) created a special visa that enables victims of sex and labor trafficking to remain temporarily in the United States if they agree to assist in the investigation or prosecution of their traffickers (Clarren, 2007). A non-profit anti-trafficking organization called Polaris Project resides in Washington DC has investigated the Human Trafficking problem for years. They estimate that in the Human Trafficking industry illegal party was making around $642,000 a year by selling sex of women and young girls. Human trafficking is one of the worst crimes of the United States. So many men, women and children are abused and nobody pays any attention to it. It is a comfort to know that sex and labor trafficking has caught the attention of the government in the United States.
