Where would society be without mass media? How would our society evolve with electronic communication? These are important questions. They demand investigation into how our world functions on a daily basis. The answers to these questions tell us how we think, act and feel every day. Without mass media and without mass communication, society would look much different. Every generation had its own leap in technology which dramatically changed the course of human existence. With each technological leap, communication and mass media evolved with it. When broadcast radio became mainstream, households across America gained access to live news and entertainment. When computers became the main source of filing and storing information, government, media, and the general public had a new resource for communication. As technology grew, so did society’s demand and with each new image, debate, journal entry or story, came a new challenge for the media industry. Media and society have a symbiotic relationship. There is the idea that media drives society’s conversation. Can it also be true that society drives the media?…

Technology has played a big role in electronic and digital media. Technological inventions keep companies competing in the same areas. “Digital and electronic media today is plentiful with the information highway (Internet) providing answers at our fingertips, along with cell phones that are equipped with cameras and Internet connection”(Thomas 2010). Today media has a major impact on society. Since technology is ever changing, society is forced to keep up with the technological changes and advances. From satellite television to wireless electronics, society wants all the new technological inventions ever made. Society has grown dependent on electronic products, spending less time with people and more time on the internet. Before television was invented kids were forced to play outside with the neighborhood children. Before the internet or World Wide Web, libraries were used religiously allowing everyone to research on their own and take time to read books. Digital cameras allow us to capture moments, save print and share. With inventions like memory cards, we are able to save any and everything. As one example are social websites. People are capable of meeting from anywhere in the world. You can chat with somebody from Germany now; 5 minutes later meet a person from Spain, and later on meet another from Argentina. This was pretty much impossible before the invention of the internet, unless you were at a local bar in New York City or in a ONU’s convention. One more example is mailing. Regular mail used to take days, weeks, and sometimes months to reach at the destination. Today, thanks to the internet, a full letter can be sent and received in less than 5 minutes. Last of all, chatting, messaging, and talking from distance places have been improved thanks to the internet. No matter where you are, as long as you have internet connection and a device capable of web surfing like computers, a smart phone, an Iphone, etc. you can instantly communicate with somebody at the other end of the line. Web cams make even better these tasks because you can listen, talk and observe each other’s reactions. This capability is widely used in social chatting, long distance classes, and business conferences.…
