Hufflepuff Analysis
It seems as though it only took the Sorting Hat an INSTANT to place Drew in the house of Hufflepuff, the home of Cedric Diggory and Nymphadora Tonks. WHY did the Sorting Hat decide to place Drew in this house for the next seven years? Today, we find out.

First of all, Drew is very kind, one of the main qualities in a Hufflepuff. Here’s how we know. First, Drew would never THINK of insulting someone. He cares about other people's feelings, and thinks before he speaks. Second, when the opportunity comes to help someone out, Drew is always there. He has been known for participating in service projects, such as feeding the homeless, organizing school supplies for flood victims, and helping to start a recycling program at his school. Also, Drew likes to say things that make people feel good, not hurt or humiliated.

Now, you’re probably wondering how we know this. Here’s how! For starters, Drew has two brothers, who require a LOT of patience, especially since they are both younger than he is. When he just wants to relax for a bit, his brothers are clambering all over him, begging for him to play with them. Most often, he puts his own activities on hold to spend a little time with them. Up next, Drew is a real bookworm, so he has to be patient when the latest book in a series takes awhile to be released or come in the mail. And, last but not least, Drew and his family take long road trips every year, and it sure takes patience being cooped up in a minivan for eight hours with two little brothers who constantly ask, “Are we there yet?”

In conclusion, the Sorting Hat placed Drew in the house of Hufflepuff because he is kind, hardworking, and patient. Although Hagrid referred to Hufflepuffs are “a lot of old duffers’, the Sorting Hat must have seen that Drew exemplified ALL of these qualities, and that Hufflepuff was ultimately the right house for him during his time at

Dickens uses this description of the Havisham Manor to give Pip’s impression of surrealness surrounding Miss Havisham and her house. Pip has just been apprenticed to Joe and goes to visit Miss Havisham, and, as he walks home, he reflects on the decrepitness and the age of the house and its contents. As the sentence progresses, Dickens chooses to order his descriptions in increasing intensity of spookiness and specificity, seemingly ‘zooming’ in to smaller and smaller objects and ending with the main clause. Dickens also chooses to structure the descriptions in the order Pip has seen them on his first visit to Miss Havisham, starting with a ‘dull old house’ and ending the descriptions with the “clocks [that] had stopped Time…,” to allow the reader…

Although Miss Havisham is of high social class, she lives a bitter life, set on getting revenge on the male gender. On the other hand, Magwitch is viewed as a lowly convict, but is selfless and his life goal was to support Pip in being a gentleman.
