206.1 The difference between a working relationship and a personal relationship is that in a working relationship I have to be professional at all times. It is also a different structure, I have management to answer to and I also have a role to fulfil. I am getting paid to work and have working relationships. In a working relationship you are working in a team of a number of different people and must build relationships with other staff member in order to work to the best of your ability and in a team.
In a personal relationship is outside of work, it involves having feelings for another person. I have a professional duty of care to the individuals I support at work which is different to my family and friends. Different types of working relationships I have are with my manager, colleagues, the service users, the families and friends of the service users. 206.2 My job role defines the functions of what I have to do; this is what I am getting paid for. If I do not adhere to this then the individuals may not be getting looked after properly, their needs may not be met and accidents could happen. It is important to adhere to my job role so that I work within the boundary of my job roll, that I am not doing things that I am not qualified to do so. If I wasn’t to adhere accidents could happen, individuals and service users wouldn’t get a high level of care. Important information may not get passed on to other members of staff or the wrong information may be passed on and confidentiality may be breached.
Agreed ways of working is to work to the policies and procedures set out by the manager in the workplace as well as legal requirements. Policies and procedures are vital as they support me in my work role and enable me to work professionally and safely.
