Introduction and Overview:
Today’s workforce is always evolving, and in today’s world; it changes at a rapid rate. The full paper will identify components in Managing the Flexible Workforce. Success in the 21st century organization will depend first on building strategic flexibility. “To develop strategic flexibility and competitive advantage, requires exercising strategic leadership, building dynamic core competences, focusing and developing human capital, effectively using new manufacturing and information technologies, employing valuable strategies (exploiting global markets and cooperative strategies) and implementing new organization structures and culture (horizontal organization, learning and innovative culture, managing firm as bundles of assets). Thus, the new competitive landscape will require new types of organization and leaders for survival and global market leadership.” The course paper will include research and discussion on the following topics as they relate to managing the flexible workforce: Defining the new competitive workforce.

Then and Now: a comprehensive look at the change in the workforce. New graduates entering the workforce for the first time: managing youth versus seniority staff. Company Cultures demanding flexibility.

Flexible staff roles and flexible schedules: the importance of both. Retention of staff in today’s workforce and managing turnover. The goal of the topics discussed will be to break down and define the flexible workforce. The causes and demands of flexibility on staff. The transformation of our workforce has changed business and services wanted by customers and flexibility is key to stay abreast of the competitive advantage in the future. Problem Defined:

The problem that the current workforce faces has several folds that create a conundrum; age, gender and organization culture are all at odds with one another. As new generations enter the workforce and the older generations decide to stay longer, management and HR staffing have to deal with adjusting the management scale. Companies need to stay at the cutting edge to remain ahead of their competition. In order to say at the front line, company culture must appeal to employees and be profitable.

Individuals still seek stable employment and flexibility. Another common problem employers face in a downturn economy would be a temporary labor force. But many employees want a close relationship to their employer with benefits that exceed medical but also fitness memberships and tuition reimbursement. Human Resources need to appeal to the organization’s needs as well as the needs of the staff. To limit contingent staffing, some companies are making permanent employees more agile. Defining the New Competitive Workforce:
