The HR Professional Map captures what successful and effective HR people do and deliver across every aspect and specialism of the profession, and sets out the required activities, behaviours and knowledge.

By covering 10 professional areas and 8 behaviours, set in 4 bands of competence the Map covers every level of HR profession.

HR Professional Map is the foundation of HR profession, and it sets out what HR practitioners need to know and do and how the need to go about doing it at all stages in their careers.

The 10 Professional areas are:

The 10 professional areas has 2 core areas which are (Insights, Strategy and Solutions and Leading HR function) the heart of HR professionals regardless of role, location or stage of career,
The other 8 areas identify the activities and knowledge that is needed to provide specialist HR support.

Insights, strategy and solutions:
The successful HR professional develops actionable insights and solutions, prioritised and tailored around a deep understanding of business, contextual and organisational understanding.
Great HR professionals work from a deep business, contextual and organisational understanding to develop actionable insight, and prioritise HR strategies that make the most difference at any given time. You develop insight-led solutions, prioritised and tailored around a good business, contextual and organisation understanding – identifying opportunities and risks and acting on them.

Leading HR:
The successful HR professional provides active, insight-led leadership: owning, shaping and driving themselves, others and activity in the organisation.
Great professionals are active, insight-led leaders – owning, shaping and driving, not just observing or facilitating. They develop across 3 main areas of leadership - personal leadership, leading others and leading issues.

There are two aspects of the core – the very centre, labelled, ‘Insights, strategy and solutions, and the ring around this, which is defined as ‘Leading HR’.
