HIMACHAL PRADESH HP Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation
1. Organization, Function and Duties:
a) Organization: The Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation Ltd. popularly known as hpmc was incorporated in June, 1974 as a subsidiary of the Himachal Pradesh Agro Industries Corporation
Limited with the objective of providing Mechanical Packing/Grading, Marketing, Forwarding, Warehousing, Distribution of Horticultural Inputs, Cold Storages and Processing facilities to the growers of the State. The hpmc ceased to be the subsidiary company of the HP Agro Industries Corporation Ltd., in 1996-97 and has since then become fully owned
Government Company. The Corporation has completed 32 years of its existence and all these years have taken many a significant strides and secured for itself a pride of place in the field of marketing, processing and creation of infrastructural net-work within and outside the State.
The Corporation has developed a vast infrastructural network in the fruit growing areas of Himachal
Pradesh by setting up of 11 Mechanical Grading/Packing Houses with a capacity of 34,000 MT, 5 Cold Storages of
1,000 MT each out of which 2 Cold Storages at Oddi and Patlikuhl have pre-cooling facilities. Various pre-harvest and post-harvest activities in these catchment areas under 5 Regional Offices at Shimla, Rohru, Kullu (Bhunter), Kangra and
Rampur are being undertaken through 18 Branches/Sub Offices within the State and 6 Regional Offices outside the
State located at Delhi(2), Chandigarh, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. The Corporation has also developed 4 Cold
Storages in terminal markets at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Parwanu with total installed capacity of 11750 MT and plans to further expand the cold storage facilities at Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata. In the field of fruit processing, the Corporation has its own modern and prestigious

Livestock & Dairy sector is the main segment of agro-economy playing a key role in providing major source of animal protein in shape of milk, meat and eggs to the consumers. In 2010-11 livestock constituted 11.5 % of the total GDP and accounted for about 55.1% of agricultural value added at the micro level.
