“There was a hand in the darkness, and it held a knife.” These are the first words of the fantasy book by Neil Gaiman called The Graveyard Book. The book is about an ordinary child who is in all was ordinary. Well other than the fact that he was raised in a graveyard by ghosts and a man who is neither living or dead that is. Nobody Owens (yes that is his real name) was nearly murdered when he was a baby. Although the murderer the man named Jack also known as Jack Frost failed to murder him, he did manage to murder his family. The last thing that the ghost of his mother did was tell the ghost of the Owens family to protect him. He is taken in by the Owens, who chose with the other ghosts to bestow upon him the Freedom of the Graveyard which lets him be able to pass through
Bod overhears the ghouls planning to eat him or leave him to rot so he runs away. He is aided by the Night-Gaunts and surprisingly Mrs.Lupescu. Bod finds out that she is a hound of god and they escape from the city. Mrs.Lupescu was much kinder from then on and when Silas came back Bod asked for her to come again. When Bod tries to go to school, he tells kids how to stop the school bully and when he tries to attack him, he uses his powers to disappear and when that doesn’t stop him he walks into his dreams and tells him to stop. The bully never bullied anyone again, but his friend tried to get his uncle to arrest him, but Silas is hit by the car and Bod pretends that he is his dad then he disappears. Silas survives because he is nearly invincible. Bod then left the school and wiped every memory of him except for the bullies friends memories. Bod’s childhood friend comes back and she learns that he is real because she used to think he was imaginary. Bod learns from Silas that Jack Frost and the group, the Jacks of all trades are the one who killed his family and that they are still searching for him to kill
