When Smith began applying to colleges, she excitedly applied to one college, her dream college—Asbury University. According to Smith, Asbury’s commitment to giving their students a liberal arts education that highlighted “learning people’s stories and backgrounds and growing knowledgeable about things outside of their major” was what drew her to Asbury. However, recognizing the steep Asbury tuition, Smith worked numerous hours at a furniture store, Fitzpatrick Furniture, wanting to save money for college.
